I wish I could tell you it wasn’t true. I wish I could tell you the nay-sayers and critics were all wrong. I wish I could, but I can’t.
The stark truth is this: If you want to be really successful online, you are going to have to learn to connect with other successful people.
You can know all there is to know about marketing, web design and the Internet, but if you are going to reach the highest levels of success online you need to have “friends in high places.”
That’s the bad news if relationships are tough for you. Here is the GOOD news: Almost ANYONE can get those influential friends. Here’s how…
1. Ask for help.
Using a forum, newsgroup or emailing directly ask for help. Many “big names” are very willing to help you get going online.
2. Buy their product.
While I am not advocating buying every product offered, getting a person’s products shows you are interested in what they are offering. This takes you into their “circle” and you are much more likely to develop an online relationship with the person.
3. Don’t ask for a refund without a good reason.
Offering a no-questions asked money back guarantee is one of the keys to success in online business. But if you are going to ask a company for a refund, make sure you have a reason anyway. Most online companies I know will remove you from their list as soon as you ask for a refund unless you give them a reason. “Refunders”–people who buy and then ask for a refund for no reason–are a money drain for any business and being known as one will keep you from ever having a real relationship with that business owner.
4. Attend a seminar.
Getting to meet people personally is a huge advantage. One of the best ways to get to know “big name” successful people is through attending their seminars. These are pricey, but the relationships and information you will gain from just one conference can make you tens-of-thousands of dollars.
5. Get a mentor.
Some of us offer personal mentoring from time to time. While these opportunities are rare, they provide a great chance to get to know the “big name” personally. One of my mentors recently offered to mentor a “few other people” for a five figure price tag. Someone asked me if I thought it was worth it. My reply: “It’s worth TEN TIMES that much.”
There you have it: Five ways almost anyone can develop a relationship with people who are already a success online. Pursue one or more of these and YOU may be the next big name success everyone wants to know!
