Default Ignore Yahoo! now?

So, should we now start ignoring Yahoo and only aim for Google and Bing?

If Yahoo's results are going to be powered by Bing I see no reason to aim at a Yahoo position for what could only turn out to be a couple of weeks!

What are your plans?

A lot of the stuff that you do for Google carries over for Yahoo/Bing

I would still focus on all 3 because Google may pickup some of the stuff Yahoo is doing.

In the near future Yahoo is doing Bing. So you think Google is copycatting Yahoo?
Redcar concentrate on Google and Bing.

Since the deal needs to win DOJ approval, which is far from being a given, it would be foolish to assume that Yahoo search will cease to exist.

Right now, Yahoo has more than 20% market share, so you can't ignore it.

I agree, I still sell quite a bit off of yahoo. Plus people who are buying will use more than one search engine, I can't tell you how many times I see multiple search engines as the referral site for a sale.

Well, if Yahoo won't cease to exist, it would make sense to make your site rank well there also. Not everyone uses Google as their search engine.

And, Yahoo remains the no. 1 portal, away and by far, with a user satisfaction rating to match.

User satisfaction rating notwithstanding, I don't know that I'd agree that Yahoo is the #1 portal.

I've just focused on satisfying the ever-changing desires of the Google-monster (okay, I'm a whore...what can I say?). I've found that if I build to satisfy them, I rate as good or better with Yahoo.

Bing, for the time being, isn't even on my horizon.

On the search side, maybe Yahoo is less of a contender but it is still the number 1 Start Page if I'm not mistaken. As long as that is true, Yahoo is in the mix. I agree that if you SEO for Google, Yahoo tends to follow (BING too). I for one am looking for ways to be less Google centric. Start at least thinking about SMO. In the next couple of years SEO will be obsolete.

Now, THERE'S a cheerful thought to start off the day with!

I don't know that I'd accept that as an inevitability, but unfortunately, I would have to admit that I think it's a possibility. I think "couple of years" is unlikely, though. It is possible that eventually, enough standards will be established, in such a way as to be enforceable, and that search technology will develop to the point that SEO becomes a bygone necessity.

But I don't think that all the SEOs will disappear, and have to set up booths in their local swapmeets to pay the bills...SEO will just evolve into something different, probably more closely related to design standards conformance.

SEO is simply a marketing tactic.

Tactics and strategies will change, but it is exceedingly unlikely that the need for marketing will ever vanish.

I would not discount any Search Engine that can bring traffic to your site. Yahoo is still part of the Big 3 for the moment.

Unless you already have more traffic than you desire and can handle.

SEs should be viewed as advertising and sales channels; to the extent you've the capacity to deal with the responses, the more the better.

Beside of the search, Yahoo also give you the opportunities to advertise on other area of their website, such as yahoo shopping, emails, etc...

In terms of getting benefits for my websites, I wouldn't ignore any of those three as all of them are giving good traffic for my websites as all of them are pretty much receiving good traffic. Yahoo is almost close to Google and Bing is still growing so I think the competition for this three is still going to increase.
Site Comparison of google.com (rank #1), bing.com (#13), yahoo.com (#2) | Compete
and with that,I think people who uses search engines for its actual purpose other than giving us money through ranking our websites, are not ignoring any of the two SE.

In Singapore, I am seeing a lot of Yahoo advertisement on TV. Maybe they are aggressively getting advertisers to create a better search result? So far I am still getting a reasonable amount of traffic from Yahoo.

So guess we should not be ignoring the fact that Yahoo can comes in handy with traffic - sales?

Yahoo is still the largest portal; and, has a user base that is more satisfied that is that of Google.

Furthermore, should the proposed Yahoo-Bing deal be realized, the combined search volume would not be insignificant, as such already has a 30% market share.

True, DS, and even if that doesn't materialize, I think Yahoo is still a big enough slice of the pie, that we'd be unwise to ignore it completely.
