Default Google vs Yahoo

Why is it that I would have better ranking with Google than Yahoo? I mean, from my experience in past years if you pleased Google, you most likely did good by Yahoo. Lately im falling from Yahoo but moving up in Google. What gives?

well, if you cant find success in traffic from Yahoo's SERP there are other ways to get traffic from them
- Mobile Site Submission
- Podcast Submission
- Product Submission
- Yahoo Directory Submission
- Media RSS Feeds
- Yahoo Answers

Google is much tougher to get ranked for the long run. It's fairly easy to get ranked/indexed in Google initially. The difficult part is that after the honeymoon is over, Google makes it tough on you.

Yahoo on the other hand takes longer to get indexed however once you are there it's easier to stay there.

This is very general, but that's been my experience.

BTW, seems like a great forum. Just joined and glad I did.

Search engines have different algorithm. Google gives weight age to certain domain age, off page seo paramters whereas Yahoo differs in other aspects.

Targeting both at one time is a difficult thing but not impossible.

Hey Google and Yahoo uses different algorithm for its search engine result. So may be it is possible that you may come in the top in search result in one but not in other. It's depend how you work for your site.

Well, google bots actually see web pages differently than that of yahoo bots.. Maybe, most of the factors on your web pages agrees to what google tend to observe is vital while losing those that are good for yahoo bots' eyes..

Yahoo gives more weight to factors like keyword density, keyword presence in your url, site structure than Google does.

This is going to sound crazy but it works. Place plan text keyword phrases high on you pages. I mean like right at the top.

Yahoo likes that a lot!

I'm new here despite having 25+ sites since 1995. Running full-time online biz starting Oct/Nov 2005.

Since G is my biggest paymaster (adsense), I will regularly update myself with the latest developments related to G. The other SEs? Of little interest to me. Long time ago I was a great fan of Altavista.

Agree with Jordy - I've notced we feature much better in Yahoo when the keyphrase is in the url. We get the vast majority of our traffic by far from Google, but it's a double edged sword - good traffic, good sales from Google natural searches...but no real back-up plan with Yahoo.

Google is better than Yahoo. In terms of searching, google provides fast search for facts and information. in terms of GUI, yahoo provides a better user interface unlike google.

I think even Google gives importance to the keyword domain. So that may not be the fault. You need to check other on-page seo parameters.

These are two different search engines and they use different algorithms. It is quite possible to top one SE and rank low in another. Google consider 200 factors while ranking a site and Yahoo consider their own factors.

Best thing to do is to get some links from trusted sites and add useful content in your site. All SEs like to see these two things.
