One major difference is that Yahoo counts your internal links as backlinks. So with Yahoo it is very important to use keywords in your internal linking structure. Yahoo likes links to have good link anchor text in general. With Yahoo you can get rankings based mostly on quantity of backlinks, whereas Google is more concerned with the link quality.

I agree with Jeremy.. Also if you are not so sure of what to do, you may see what your competitors are doing.. Analyze theirs..

In addition of caring on-site element for Yahoo, you should follow the standard Content SEO guidelines, especially keyword URL's and give attention on meta tag and do some significant additional developments which are being used to optimizing for Google. Also use Yahoo Site explorer to keep track on your links and indexed web pages.

I think the following things are important while we focused on Yahoo.

  • Website content
  • internal links of the website and their structure
  • each page title is also important
  • Use keywords rich file names or inner links name or url

Yahoo is slowly indexing the site that's why it's also slow to get rankings there. I also think that yahoo focus more on content.

I don't know if this is true, but I read from a blog that yahoo needs more keyword density in the articles than google.
