Microsoft (the owner of MSN) is attempting the biggest-ever technology takeover. Today (February 1, 2008 ), Microsoft Corp. has proposed Yahoo Inc. an unsolicited takeover offer of $44.6 billion in an attempt to compete with Google in a market that may almost double to $80 billion by 2010.

The upcoming "window of opportunity" will be closing on Saturday, April 26th, on Yahoo in the unsolicited offer from Microsoft. Yahoo! has been courageously and expeditiously exploring alternatives in its battle to fend off or obtain a higher bid from Microsoft. Yahoo! announced their 1st quarter 2008 financial results yesterday announcing a 9% gain which topped Wall Street’s expectations.

Microsoft Corporation’s CEO, Steve Ballmer is unimpressed. Ballmer stated the day before the results were released, “I wish Yahoo all the success with its results, but it doesn’t affect the value of Yahoo to Microsoft.” Ballmer gave Yahoo! the deadline of Saturday to accept the offer or face the consequences of having to settle for a lower price that it will proceed to take directly to Yahoo!’s shareholders.
