Default 3 word phrases on yahoo

I have a few websites that rank well on Google and Msn, but on Yahoo there seems to be a problem.
I come up 2 or 3 page for my 3 word phrase but If I add another word which is common to my competition I come up 1st or 2nd.
Can anyone explain this to me, should i change my title to just the 3 words?

A simple answer would be that Google and MSN rely more on backlink text to your site than Y!.

Yahoo! counts links for sure but not to the extent of G or MS, freshness and onpage relevance is they key to Y!

Odd thing with Google is that if I miss spell one of my keywords I come up number one, spell them correct and I'm 7. By adding more words I am also higher on google, but take a word away and the competition stay on page one, yet our site floats down the list onto the bottom of page 1 or page 2.

We have virtually no back links.

Yahoo is no where - it only trawls a page every other day (from our logs), yet google is our top visitor!

I think it has more than just back links, it is also down to the differences in the search engines placement - because of this we have re-worked our title and description to be more robot friendly without loosing readbility.

I also noticed, despite Google's claims on how clever its algorithms are, that a student in a US university was top 3 no matter what you typed - his page just had three of every word in the dictionary: but it appears it only lasted a few days - his site wasn't that interestings!

Regards,

What about getting a few more backlinks to see if that will help?
