I think I may have been unclear. I am not saying that their algorithm returns the best content or the most relevant; I am saying that Yahoo's algo puts more weight on content than on links, as compared to Google and MSN. Whether a search engine's SERPS are relevant, irrelevant, improving, or deteriorating has nothing to do with optimization for the SE, IMO.
I have consistently less success with Yahoo optimization than I do with Google ... but when I check Y's results I don't find them terribly irrelevant for searches in my niches - though clearly Google and I see more eye to eye on what sites are worthy of the top 5. ;-0 But most of our competitors are as
relevant as we are.
I don't use Yahoo for much outside business, but what searches I do there look reasonable to me. I think that in most niches there are far more sites that are deserving of the top 10 than can fit there ... so it comes down to that art and skill set we call
SEO.
