Nobody knows :)
The fact is that some testing has been done for a few months.

Yes, because 12 pm today, i search using my keywords, i was found #1... I am never found on google.
so i guess it started using Inkoimi.. but then 2 pm, I tried again, it went back to google search results. :(

It has been 'flicking' between Google and another set of results (assumed to be Inktomi) for some users sometimes for several months now.
It is also an assumption that Yahoo are going to Inktomi. Apparently in none of Yahoo's press releases have they actually said that (I stand to be corrected on this one, as I have not checked myself). They have said they are ending contract with Google.

See thread in "Search Engine Insider Reports". They are now crawling with a modifed version of Slurp, named, oddly enough, "Yahoo! Slurp", which would certainly imply that they are going to Inktomi.

I am starting to see today some (not all) Yahoo searches which return results very similar to those found at MSN but which still have the search results provided by Google blurb at the bottom of the page.
IMO these seem to be Inktomi results but with a slight Yahoo flavor being tested.
Seems that a change could happen soon.

I agree with you.
I guess they are using similar type of algorithms to generate their search results, but not the same...
Anyways, I personally uses yahoo, and i also think that google's search engine got famous mainly because yahoo was using google for it web search results.
Now that google changed their algorithm to make the linking popularity weight heavier than anything else. I got some really bad search results... for those liked google, please don't attack me, it is just my opinion

Just ran a few tests this evening on a site. Certain keyphrases on various products I have been targeting are appearing #1 to #6 on Yahoo today, but not in the top 50 in google. So is Yahoo going back and forth for results, or is Yahoo using a combination of Google and the "slurp" bot?

Old Results
The interesting thing to me about what I see in Yahoo is that the results are really old, by which I mean it seems as if I went back in time when I search for certain phrases. I see results coming up that I haven't seen in a couple of years, and a lot of the newer sites simply are not there. I search primarily for Yellowstone related stuff, so that is the scope of my searches--certainly a limitation. I just couldn't help but notice several really outdated sites of defunct business as well as several pages that I removed a couple years ago. Because Yellowstone is a small community, I am pretty intune with what should and should not be showing up in search engines.
Just some thoughts. . . .

I agree that it is not Pure Inktomi, but it certainly is using the Inktomi index and the results are very similar to MSN results on many searches. Pages submitted to the Inktomi PFI are included, and I have a couple of Inktomi listings that came about as a result of the Looksmart/MSN partnership and those are ranking well at Yahoo today.

I think it is Inktomi
I received a high priority message from Marketleap tonight ... I use them for Inktomi Submissions.
The message started like this:
"Yahoo! Search has transitioned to its own search technology (Inktomi, a Yahoo! company) and is preparing to launch a new inclusion program."
Full Article Here: http://www.marketleap.com/news/inktomiss_yahoo.htm
When I check my Hotbot Ranking and Yahoo Ranking for 10 different keyword phrases they match ...
Nothing like the Google Rankings.
