Default Forum Sigs and SEO

This is probably my most controversial topic subject. And it is possibly the only thing that crankydave and I disagree on.

Sorry CD you know how much respect I have for you.

We created a page named Homebuy Brokers it is very recent. OK it is not a hugely searched title, but in the UK it will be!

Here are the Yahoo results. You will see the WPW Thread has cropped up.

Now, personally I think that this proves my point that SEO and forum usernames and related topics are indexed by the SE's. But as always I have a totally open mind.

Over to my peers.

My bolding.

What about Google PageRank?

Kgun wrote in the related thread:

Conclusion:
  • Generally GoogleBOT indexes names on forums.
  • That does not necessarily imply that GoogleBOT indexes names on that special forum. For one or another reason (e.g. legal), they may have written the code so that SE bots are not allowed to index names.
Hope that that clear my view.

Any disagreement to that?

I have seen rankings just from WPW signature link testing before in Yahoo. No other SE's though.

The second link is broken.

How is the relationship between Google Alerts, GoogleBOT and the Google index / archive? That is the question.

Pure speculation:
Is it possible that some of the SE's have a weighting system for forum sigs based on the relevance of the members posts? As long as something is indexed (stored in a database), it can also be weighted and manipulated by various types of algorithmes.

Yes, pure speculation. But if you ignore your given known Google links, and do a (Yes I know this is old, but what goes around etc) "linksto""yoursite" then the odds are that the search will result in Link related topics in forums. Whereas if you do a simple "counciltenantsmortgages" or the same with any site, WHERE the owner/user is a known forum player you will see that the links are still very forum related. The longer the thread the more 'linksto'.

In fact, one forum cottoned on to it, and NO I cannot say which one, but they were using their usernames as link bait for paying customers. So I think I was correct all along and that usernames and SEO tatics go hand in glove. I would add that it was not my forum, and I thank the heavens that I did not try it. As Google has locked off those links and the posters IBL counts have been sorely disrupted.

Self Edit - I just had a e-mail alert that a thread I was in had had a reply. No big deal. But that thread has been resurrected by thedark and it is nearly two years old. Why he posted on it is anybody's guess. But I cannot complain as we tell new posters to read previous posts to learn from others. So now that a really old post is back on top, it will get crawled. Is it 'New Content' for the bots - or will they recognise it. My guess is that it will be date indexed and ignored. You???

Interesting. Is it not possible for you to find the article?

Everything that has a potential to be used for SEO purposes will be used. It is all about money and traffic.

Here is a clear difference between a human being and a SeBOT. A human being can at once see if the new post adds value. Myself, I have made some old posts on WPW that are updated with important and valuable content. So, if I were a BOT, I would index the updated post as fresh content. But I am not a BOT and a BOT is not a human being even if the SE companies use AI to simulate human behaviour.

Here is a typical example:

No it was a PM from a friend who used to Mod there.

Now, this is also interesting.

I'm getting a stack of hits from MSN/Live & Ask
KGun you know how many UK sites are .gov's and google favoured. But just look at a hit I got today

We can't find "council.co.uk"

You can try again by typing the URL in the address bar above.
Or, search the Web:

Go to MSN Search to see complete results for "council.co.uk".

Popular Searches

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can also visit one of these related Web sites.
Council Tenants Advice Bureau
Liverpool City Council
Cringleford Parish Council

Now, if that is not Link related I don't know what is.

I am sort of wandering a little off topic, but Google has always favoured.govs over commercial sites. Whereas Yahoo will favour .govs followed by MIVA listed sites.
