Default Microsoft to acquire Yahoo?

Microsoft to acquire Yahoo?

Wolfgang Gruener May 4, 2007 21:08

New York (NY) - A new mega merger may be on the way, if there is truth in a rumor that is making the rounds on Friday: According to a report published by the New York Post, Microsoft is planning to purchase Yahoo in a deal that could approach a value of $50 billion and result in more than twice the number of visitors to Google's sites.

Microsoft apparently has been in informal talks with Yahoo several times over the past years. According to the New York Post, Microsoft's renewed interest has been fueled by Google's recent acquisition DoubleClick, which increases an already existing dominance in online advertising for Google.

And about time too. MSN is in my opinion the only thing that can save Yahoo. They have slipped so far behind both in SEO terms of search results but also in being Boring.

There was a story about it on Tv yesterday, but as far as I understood the price of USD 50 billion was too high. If there is substance in the rumours, I think Microsoft will come back and shop and then MS Dewey may have taken her first step in dominating the world unless Google steps faster.

I cannot see the adorable Ms Dewey as being the chosen venue if the merger were to complete. Live would be my guess, more PC friendly.

Yes, same here, it is too early to know the future. Time for a new "Coke / Pepsi like" domination?

I doesn't look likely that all those anti-trust commissions would approve the deal. Microsoft dominates software market and after taking over yahoo would dominate search.

Yahoo has hired investment banker today as its new CFO what is a sign that they are more interested in acquisitions rather than being sold to Microsoft.

Even if Bill did buy Yahoo they would never dominate search. The expression 'Google it' has taken over.
