Default Optimize for Y! w/o Affecting GG?

I have a site that has done better than I could have hoped for on Google for yrs. and always at the top of Y! (didn't convert like GG though - but helped).

I just followed some links from orders in my store, to point of origin in Yahoo search and found that a lot of my terms are at the middle or bottom of the page.

This happened within the past couple weeks or so since I type my best terms in myself about once or twice a month. Last time I checked they were all #1 for Y!

How can I optimize for Yahoo! w/o incurring a massive "hit" on GG? It would put me in a bad place to lose my Google positions plus the newly lost Y! positions.

Anyone Plz?

Page 1? That is still good!

Yahoo updated on May 29th, that could be why your rankings have changed. Have your sales or leads from your website gone down from Yahoo?

Yes, Jaan it's good if you've never held the top two on all SE's for every conceivable combination of a search term to find your products.

Now I see my competitors up there and I'm at 5 - 8 - 10 and that just happened. Maybe it will correct itself or I must find a way to please Y! w/o p'ing off GG - who sends an astronomical amount of traffic for the same top listings - and the lion's share of my sales.

I'd like to know what happened more than anything? Thanks for the encouragenment though!

Well I hope you know and accept ranking fluxuations and going to be part of yours and everyone life more and more and personalized and regionalized search is introduced on all three major search engines. The days or always being number are already disappearing on Google and I sure the other two search engines will surely follow.

OK with that being said, you obviously moved down while your competitors have moved up in the last Yahoo update. Have you done anything while you were at the top 2 positions to keep yourself there? I would guess to say your competitors have simple done more than you to move up than you have done to keep yourself at the top.

Also maybe the opposite is true. Did you doing any content or design changes that could have coincided with the drop in rankings?

I would suggest go ahead and post some examples of where you have dropped and maybe we can give some feedback on how to improve the rankings for your website.

SE's algorithm change all of the time and so do the SERPs to meet these algo requirements. Nothing out of the norm here.

Jaan,
It seems by looking, that the opposition is beating me by my employing the old Google-type title & meta tags. They're (Y! in my niche) liking them non-spammy - brief and exactly to the point. Same with 1 or 2 sentence descriptions and a handful of keywords (tag).

Mine are so keyword stuffed they're like a volcano - ready to explode - same with meta desc. and KW tags. Maybe the others will follow suit - in which case I know exactly what they want - I believe anyway.

That's what I've been doing to another site of mine and getting better results.

I didn't touch it much - why mess with 4 yrs of owning the top of the heap in your niche? I get links for nothing and have been submitted and into almost every directory in the universe - (exaggerating a just a bit). I get tons of "word of post" traffic from the biggest forums all over, where people post go to "cz'site.com for this or that" really good branding and saturation in the niche. One post referral from the big forums is worth hundreds or more hits - maybe more in the long run.

I have added a few new products and optimized them short and sweet - they're doing well.

I won't post the URL - don't want to share it. Y! never gave me much anyway but the listing - not much income.

I do think I've figured it out since posting and am waiting for some sections that fell and am waiting for a Y! update to see how they fare - and compare with GG who really pays the bills. I won't keep any change that messes with those.

Thanks again Jaan!
