Default Duplicate content in Yahoo doesnt apply.

All hosted together on IP 65.14.90.141

http://whois.webhosting.info/65.14.90.141

343 duplicate restaurant websites, each of which is on page #1 on Yahoo for its respective city.

Just sad that we have people getting sites dropped and 343 identical restaurant sites on the same IP address slip past all filters?

Pretty gross.

At least the drop downs are all unique and accurate.

Have you reported them? Can you find them interlinking at all?

As you probally noticed spam watching is my hobby, its fun and educational.

submitted one report, dont expect it to make a difference, but any more time than that spent is too much.

Found a seperate duplicate network on page 2 in Google as well in the same market, restaurants and dining is a cluttered mess, but this takes the big fat spam-cake.

One thing it does proves is that domain name(s) still are worth a decent amount in the overall algos.

I'm rather new to all this, so perhaps someone could tell me what is wrong with what they are doing.

While each page does have a lot of duplicate content, each page is also customized for its location. This customizing changes a significant part of the content, especially if you are looking at the source.

They are providing different information for each city.

They do not cross link, or even mention the other sites.

How is this different than a furniture store in one market, selling the same bedroom set as another store in another market?

It is the same bedroom set so much of the information on the two web sites would be the same. They both might even throw in a lot of the same extra information about furniture.

However, if the locations they are advertising are not the same, and the prices are not the same, why would this be a problem?

There must be hundreds of thousands of pages that have 90% of their content identical to one another.

If they are serving different clients, or locations, what is the problem and why would they be penalized?

I am not trying to be a smart ass in any way!

I know that duplicate content is wrong, and that it can be used in ways that deceive the people visiting a web site.

However, how does this restaurant company, which has customized each web site for a specific city, violate the way things should be done?

Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me!

I really do want to learn.

Thanks

Well because the problem is with the duplicate content. Just going by what the search engines like and dislike I have to guess they would dislike this experience for the users of their search engine. The only difference I found on the websites was the drop down menus. Even when clicking on the More News link it shows identical news/info for all the websites. Images, structure, content is all identical. It is not unique for each location.

In this case I can't see a problem at all, as Raus said they are promoting different restuarants in different citys and states.

Duplicate content is a delicate issue and I get p1ssed when someone with too much time on his hands starts trying to play big brother.

No one is playing big brother. The SE can show whatever websites they want. If someone reports it or not doesn't mean they will be removed, but I bet these websites will be found, evaluated and then eventually demoted appropriately by the SE.

I get this a lot. Web sites without content that have several domain names (up to 50 at times) with no page rank at all, no unique content wanting to exchange links with my site which I sweat blood for which have a PR of 5.

You can just imagine what my response to them is....

Very happy to see that there is someone that watch spam as a hobby - thank goodness for you guys - I just do not have the time to report these guys.

One thing I noticed lately is that the spammers are picking up on content page linking. They create web sites with useless content, stating the obvious which we all know and then expect us to link to those sites.

Very annoying and waste of time.

Please dont get me wrong, I dont report these hardly ever, I dont call it a hobby as in 'im the cops', I watch spam to learn from it what works and doesnt nothing more.

That was the only reason I wasted time on a thread, seemed like excessive for even the garbage I find working, and it presents an argument for those who tell others that duplication will get yopu banned or doesnt work.

I only pointed this garbage out to say, not true, duplication often will survive, thrive, and do more than hard work in yahoo's spammy engine.
