Traffic from Yahoo
Very simple! Get good rankings. Traffic and Rakings are directly proportional to each other. Hence you must ask, how to get good rankings.
But, somehow, if you are raking good on Yahoo and stil not geting the desired traffic then we need to look at the dynamics of your website/s. Small modifications on the website can make a huge difference.

Besides that...
Besides just ranking, you need to research the keywords. If nobody is searching for those words (use something like WordTracker or the Yahoo Search Marketing tools. Once you know what people really search for, create content centered around those phrases and get other sites to link to your content with the correct phrases in and around the linking text. It's not rocket science, it just takes some time and persistence.

Brian is right. You have to dig in to a lot many aspects of website (design/content), its optmization (on page / off page) and keep the site current.
And surely you need to have patience and persistence.

seo optomization
I am a newbie but my site is optomized and one of the major tools I used was www.se-tools.com. Follow the guidlines and you will improve.
Good luck. Let me know how you do. Run my url in the search window and then click on the "keyword density" tab. Then run yours.

Align meta tags and content
Sonali,
Yahoo is more "on page" than MSN and Google. Make sure you align your meta tags and content.

The best way to get into yahoo ranking is make good use of Title, Meta tag descirption and Meta keywords.
Yahoo shows a lengthy Title of your web page in SERPs So use you good quality keyword there.

the majority of the sites tend to be in top ten are review sites. is this because they use the same terms over and over again with new content from posters?

Alignment
To add to my previous comments, make sure you've got a good entry in DMOZ.

Easier said than done. A listing can be difficult, let alone a good listing - but we've got more threads on that than we need already.
Submit it there, but don't obsess over it.

DMOZ
Brian,
recently I've noticed the DMOZ description appearing in the SERPs descriptions of sites ranking at 1&2 on Yahoo. I know its a wait. But one worth doing.

Waiting 2 years now... waiting, waiting, waiting... zzz...
Submit and forget. Can't do much more than that. I could obsess over it, but what would that get me?

Right...
Right... what category? They've already denied me for the 5 categories that I've applied for (that really needed some sites added and removed). I'll just keep sitting tight and let others worry about if they're listed or not.
Of course, the SEO firm we hired a while back - just to see what would happen - resubmitted us, so I'm sure we're at the back of the line again.
Brian.
