The key phrases for my site http://www.natco-online.com are:
"indian food" "indian foods" "indian cooking" "indian spices" For all of these I score really well on Yahoo UK (main market) BUT it is the Yahoo directory page that shows up. My web pages optimised for these terms are miles away and in some cases I cant find them at all! If Yahoo is all about relevant content (and I believe my content is relevant to those search terms,) why dont my web pages rank bettter? If the Yahoo directory listing is relevant, then surely my web pages should be too? I have had several people look at my titles, tags and coding and all say its fine? Any ideas anyone?

Yahoo returns 18,500,000 results for 'indian food' this is really competitive kw.
My suggestion is: 1) Make a search in Yahoo for: "indian food" "indian foods" "indian cooking" "indian spices" Take a look at Also try: suggestions - these are your traffic bringing keywords not only for Yahoo. 2) Adding these kws in the text of your site. 3) Get one-way links with the suggestions mixed in various ways. There are tons of free directories out there. You're in the top 100 in Yahoo search. DMOZ listed and dir.yahoo listed. All you need is some fine tunning. |

Thanks .martin, a useful suggestion. Interestingly, I would have been completely unaware of this as the UK Yahoo (where I usually search) doesn't seem to offer this function - I looked everywhere on the UK search pages but only found it at Yahoo.com.
While it will undoubtedly improve listings for associated keywords I still dont see how it will improve rankings for the main keywords? The answer cant be simply that its a competitive keyword as I am only concerned about Yahoo UK and Google UK at the moment - I rank in the top 5 on Google for all these phrases (except Indian Food but thats another story ! see http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=45640 Still open to offers?
