Default Yahoo Teaseth and Yahoo Taketh ...

I've seen lots of great posts and bragging about getting high ranking, quick results in Yahoo!

This is nothing new. I can create a page, upload, and submit and have it in Yahoo's top ten in less than 48 hours. I've done it many times to great excitement. HOWEVER,

Yahoo! for whatever reason, pushes new webpages (with good titles and content) up in the SERP rather fast. I would challenge most to find those same results 14-28 days later; it's probably not there.

After the Oscars, I created a Hilary Swank page and submitted it. Within 12 hours, I had the #1 site in Yahoo for "hilar swank pics" but it was gone a week later, buried in the thousands. After about a month, it has creeped back up to #4.

Another site I did for a property maintenance company http://www.lfl-meyer.com intially ranked well for "building care services" for about a week and then fell off the face of the earth for nearly three months. Now a search in Yahoo! for that term shows lfl-meyer at #1 out of about 55 million results.

Moral of the story? Patience, persistence, and professionalism pays off.

Be Patient. if you fall out of the top rankings and don't try to over correct your content.

Be Persistent. Keep checking your site and competitor's. Find keywords that you can compete with and don't focus on unobtainalbe results.

Be professional. Keep your site clean, content relevant and updated.

Happy Ranking!

I have only had good steady results from Yahoo in the year that my web site has been online with a lot of top keyword rankings. I also get a lot more referrals from Yahoo than Google aka "The Search Engine Without a Brain".

Best,
RadarCat

I too have not seen this effect on yahoo, they have been steady in all my experiences, and only downward movement is ussually from being pushed by new sites.

I have now seen this effect you spoke of on some results. Could have been a number of outside factors, since other similarily tough phrases ranked and stuck at the top.
