Depends.. are you willing to pay for little.
We have never paid for any listing of the sort. It's simple. Submit it and forget it and move on. If you really want to get noticed.
Send emails to different sites and ask to swap links. Try and stay in the same field of product or services.
Make excellent choices in your <meta> keywords and don't over do it.
It's a waste of money in my books. There are plenty of ways to be listed for free in many, many search engines.
Sure, it might be faster and stay. But, it's really all about how your site looks. For example: If you sell something and the customer is happy.. there is no better advertising than WORD OF MOUTH!
My suggestion.. Use Your Lips!

I've found it very valuable to get listed in Yahoo. Why? go to google.com and enter "www" without the quotes. This gives you the list of the top 1,000 sites according to Google (a list that they crawl everyday).
Who is the #1 site? You got it. Yahoo.
That's why it's important to have that listing.

Good Point
Yes, it's good. It just depends on how much you want to spend across the board.
We do not spend much on listings. We spend more on local papers, radio and the like. So, I guess we will have to reconsider this point.
Very good indeed.

Huh?
Buying the link from Yahoo is just like any other text link you wish to purchase from a valid origin.

Yes, it is a link, but it's from the most important site on the internet, according to Google. Obviously, it wouldn't be as relevant as a link from a site that is in the same industry as your site's, but it is still worth it in some cases.

For me, before Y! listing we weren't in Y! but after that we jumped on first page. ;-)
IMO don't depend in Y! listing only. Invest your time to swap links and other things.

LOL @ cbp ....
I don't think A link from Yahoo can ever hurt. I would think that it boils down to $$$. Whether it's in the budget or not

I have noticed a considerable weight in Yahoo serps for sites that are listed in Yahoo directory...
I paid for my first Yahoo directory submission this month...
They listed me in two cats and had it live withiin 72 hours.... over a weekend.....
Might have been quicker in on a week day....
