Default Interesting Yahoo Rumor.

It's been confirmed now (thanks for the update flood6). AsEngadget.com reports, the ever-industrious Yahoo is planning to come out with it's own branded line of consumer electronics. Yahoo will be adding it's brand and marketing muscle to products manufactured by Diamond Electronics.

It appears as though the big Y!'s thirst for omnipresence knows no bounds. I love these guys.

Default Confirmed

Same source now says it's confirmed.

Yahoo must have seen the way Microsoft endeared itself to the public by sticking their hairy-knuckled hand into every cookie jar imaginable and wanted to follow suit...oh, wait...

Default Jump before you run

I find it amazing these days that companies get ahead of the game and then try to take over the whole game. I think it's the quest for large, and I suspect consumer electronics might be a step beyond where they belong. In my company the quest is, refine what you have, then grab another area, Yahoo still needs refinement

Personaly, and I'm no expert, but I get the impression that Yahoo is kinda scared. The search engine market is getting pretty rough lately. MSN is stepping in, Amazon is as well, and Google is so large it has become a verb, "to search the web". I think that Yahoo's recent moves have been somewhat exploratory, in the "well, when no one searches here anymore, what are we going to be doing?" direction.

And let's be honest, Yahoo has not been focusing its efforts on the search side of its business for some time now. Remember when the Yahoo homepage looked like Google's does now, just the search? Now it's a zoo of ads, info and hundreds of category links. The search bar just happens to be on there, in case you want it.

I do agree with what's been said, Yahoo's business strategy reminds me of a rich kid who sees something shiny in the store window and orders six.
