Default How do I find the key words my site is listed under?

Thank you Ronnie T. Dodger. I had those kinds of ratings on many keywords before I changed my URL on Yahoo and Google. I hope this is a sign that things are changing. How do you find what keywords you are listed under without trying one at a time? I have tried every clue I found.

The best place to look is at your own website statistics. It should tell you the keywords that people searched for when they found (and visited) your website.

You can also download the free Google Monitor tool from www.cleverstat.com. This allows you to put in your site URL and the keywords you want to know where you rank and it searches Google and tells you the current positon. Very handy for checking how the site is ranking for your target keyphrases. This is just for Google though not sure if you can get a similar tool for other engines.

...another tool I have found very useful and has helped me gain #1 rankings on MSN, Yahoo, etc. for my low carb web site is IBP4 (http://www.axandra.com/). The demo version is free and provides the ability to test your web page key words (or your own) against all web search engines. Lets you know where you rank with all search engines and even compares your web site to your competition.

This forum has helped me over the last few months with useful information so I guess it's time for me to "give back" when I can.

You could try the "Search Engine Keyword Tracker & Keyword Ranking Tool" from Digital Point Solutions.

http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/

You will have to setup an account but it's a free service.

In response to irobertson mentioning the "Google Monitor", that is the free version. Cleverstat also makes "Accurate Monitor" which is their paid version ($60) and includes about 8 of the top search engines you can try your keywords out on. It does come with a 30 trial, so try it out. The only problem is you cannot save your URL and keywords....but I still found it handy.

This got me to thinking...is there a reverse keyword lookup where you can find out what top 10-25 keywords point to your specific site.

For instance, someone may not realize that their website about pets has a top 5 ranking for pet tags, but with this reverse lookup, you could see all the words you've been ranking well for and optimize further based on this learned information. Perhaps this is just a fantasy, but I feel it is a possibility.

The main point being that you had no idea you were ranking well for these keywords. And I don't believe Webstats give you the complete picture when it comes to keyword traffic.

On the "Google Information For Webmasters" page ( http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html ) it's clearly stated under "Quality Guidlelines - Basic Principles" NOT to use unauthorized programs to submit pages, check rankings etc.

So if you use one of these programs, use it carefully.

Anyone know of an "authorized program?"
