Default Why does Yahoo charge annually for directory listing?

Hi. As you know you have the option of express review for the directory listing at yahoo. What I do not understand is:
Yahoo says that the $299 are collected to grant you a fast preview only. No listing is quaranteed. If this is the case then why do they charge again? for another preview? That is ridiculous.. Do they review all freely listed sites annually?

I am talking about non-commercial sites of course.

Default RE: Why does Yahoo charge annually for directory listing?

Someone has to review the site. That costs money.
And after one year they review the site again. Costs money, too (manpower).

But if you have a non-commercial site, you can submit it for free:

<a href="http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request">
Free Yahoo submission</a>.

Regarding Submission to the directory:
The free submissions in the directory are only for non-commercial listings. They automatically appear when you hit the "submit listings" in the category that you are interested in.

I think the question was if Yahoo re-reviews those non-commercial free submissions annually?

I am going to go out on a limb and suppose that they will get dropped after one year just like a paid listing will.

Will they send you a notification that your listing is about to expire? What happens after that one year exactly?

As JonnyGoodBoy pointed out, it takes manpower. I am sure that they will not expend any of it in pursuit of maintaining free non-commercial listings.

As they say the $299/£199 doesnt guarantee a listing, even if the company can afford to shell out $299. So what is the point IMO, it may look good, and it might affect your SERPS listing - but what it boils down to, it's just a link - an expensive one at that.
