Default Tag stuffing

A few weeks ago, I re-did alt tags and href tags, stuffing (quite heavily) with my most general (3 word) keyphrase. Today, for that phrase, my 3.5 month old site fell from #40 to #49 whereas up until now I was moving in the right direction.

Any opinions on whether the stuffing may have hurt, or is this 'normal' considering everything else that has changed in the past few days?

For my more targeted 4 word phrase, I held a #1 spot so it doesn't seem like a penalty for stuffing, but I don't know.

Yes, the keyword stuffing probably hurt your rankings. I wouldn't do it.

I agree keyword stuffing can eventually hurt you.

What I suggest is creating good keyword related titles on all your pages that are relevant to your content of each page.
