Yahoo Directory - How important?
Our site's in the Google Directory. How important is it being in the Yahoo Directory? I submited (free listing) 18 months ago but nothing happened. Is it worth the $300? I have a PR of 5 on my index page. Will the Yahoo Dir. increase that PR? How many of you here pay Yahoo? Do you think the amount is fair for a non-commercial site like mine?

No your beast bet is to wait did you get indexed in the dmoz. Just look for any higher rated relevant sites that might give you a link.

I disagree - I have noticed a significant advantage in that engine if you are in their directory....
Seems you'll rank better in the Yahoo! engine if you are in the Yahoo! directory.

Yes I have been indexed in DMOZ a while ago. By wait, do you mean wait to be indexed in Yahoo (for free?) its been 19 months now, is there still hope for me? Do they still accept free submissions? Should I re-submit?

Not in my opinion.

Most would say yes. However, I'm not convinced it does. If it does, it means you can buy PR, something Google hates. I have yet too see solid proof that a Yahoo directory listing passes PR.

I did once about 3 years ago. I'm still there and traffic from the listing is next to nothing.
Lacking any evidence to the contary, I also agree with cbp that a Yahoo directory listing doesn't boost an organic listing in Yahoo.

Do you have any proof that it doesn't? Backlinks do show up for the directory in Google, so some PR must be getting passed. If it is not ... then Google is deliberately not allowing it to like it did with some sites a while back like phpBB.com (but that was lifted a short time ago).

That is the crux right there. I agree too, it is no different than having a listing in DMOZ or any other highly rated directory.
It is only what it is ... one link ... nothing more, nothing less. Forget about the name Yahoo Directory being attached to that link.
The question properly should be ... is a link worth paying $300 for? Not to me. You could buy 10 to 15 good quality links for that amount in my opinion.

As far as I know they are. Just navigate to the category that best fits your site, then click on the Suggest A Site link. You will see the "Suggest via Standard Suggestion" box on the right.
Of course there is no guarantees on inclusion. ;0)

Unfortunately no. I'm basing my theory on logic, common sense (mine at least:) and what I would do if Google. In my mind, a paid Yahoo directory listing is not a " democratic vote" (Googles words not mine).
Google's sample of backlinks often shows pages that do not pass PR. My forum sig experiment showed this. When you think about it, Google is very unlikley to only show pages that pass PR.

Makes no difference
I submitted and paid for two different website listings in the Yahoo directory. One of them tops the directory search for my keyword but I've seen virtually no traffic from it. I just don't think many people use it - they use the regular Yahoo search instead.
It also doesn't seem to help me at all in the Yahoo search. One of the directory listed sites doesn't even appear in the search. They don't guarantee this but I would have expected it to make some difference.

Great $299 Value
The best investment you can make is to put key words in your domain name, and list the site with Yahoo. Yahoo is the second most popular search engine and growing fast, due to the popularity of the Yahoo portal. I saw great results 72 hours after the site was listed.
