Default Yahoo Cache

I noticed a significant difference in Yahoo serps today.... Anyone know if there using an older cache? Seems there may have been a new one lately, but I'm not sure... Anyone notice?

I'll say there's a difference. I'm on page two in position 34 "mlm home business" rather than in the high 200's.

Don't know what's up, but I like it!

I haven't noticed any change in the cache. There shouldnt be.

There has been a lot of Slurp activity and I am seeing more fresh pages showing up now because of it. Have you checked your server logs to see what Slurp is doing?

Ronnie,

I've noticed very strange goings on lately with the Yahoo cache. For one of my key terms "employee assistance programme" I veer between a ranking of 28-ish and 129-ish. This can vary from hour to hour. When I look at the cache, Yahoo is working from a newer (relative term here, it's at least a week old, Google has already updated) version with higher rank and from a MUCH older version with lower rank.

What I am finding encouraging is that this clearly identifies my SEO as a factor in higher SERPS, i.e. as I've made changes to the site it has ranked higher.

pne - how does the newer Yahoo cache compare with the Google version cache? Also, when you notice the new cache version, how does it compare with the WWW vs. UK version?

In particular, are you sure that the newer cache is coming from a Slurp crawl and they are not showing you a Google result. Sometime this month, Yahoo's term will expire on Google fed results. Yes, they still have access to those. But that time is coming quickly to an end.

I think Yahoo engineers are working overtime right about now -- because that safety net is about to be cut. August will be a tell-tale month in this regard.

Is there anyway you can verify that Slurp has actually crawled the pages in question? You will need to go back into your Server logs to do this. It would be helpful to know if it has or has not actually done this.

Ron,

Good questions,

1. UK Yahoo search is now showing www.sochoose.com at no 88 for "employee assistance programme" with old cache.

2. Yahoo.com search is now showing www.sochoose.com at no 27 for "employee assistance programme" with newer cache.

3. Google cache for same page is 3-4 days old.

I'll try and decypher my server logs to see what's happening and get back.

Regards,

pnr

Right now Yahoo is only showing 11 pages of your total 37 in their index. On the old cached version, it is showing #87 in the States.

I will keep an eye out for the cache change. When you see the change ... do a site:www.sochange.com query at Yahoo and see how many page show up. If it is 37 of them, then it is the Google cache you are looking at.

Thanks Ron,

I'll look out too. But here's a question. Is the old cache Yahoo's own, or are the Google inspired searches being done on old Google parameters, i.e. is Yahoo being fed old Google results.

Or, alternatively, am I barking up the wrong tree (not unheard of).

Regards,

pne

Your logic is sound. It could be an old Yahoo cache you are seeing.

This might be a bit pre-mature but Yahoo seems to be emulating googles algorithm. Since the ranking changes I saw this afternoon (I went from #9 to nowhere) Yahoo mimics googles top 20 results almost exactly. Of the top 20 sites ranked about 16 are the same and almost in the same order.
From my earlier yahoogle post. Thanks Ronnie for pointing me here.

Now I am Back to #17. My heart can't take all this.

Sure looks like google is showing up within the Yahoo results.

Results seem to have settled down a little. Anyone else notice this?

One day and a heart attack later, all my rankings are back where they began or better.
