Default Yahoo Searches= Get a Clue?

I am so confused. I've ran a test and here is what I've come up with.

#1, I did a search for the keyword phrase, "baseball directory." My website showed up #28 over all(2nd page).

#2, At the same time I had a friend of mine run the same test and my site showed up #27 over all when he did the search.

#3, I had my father on the phone and he did the same search. My site showed up #59 over all for him.

#4, Another friend from the yahoo small business chatroom ran this same test. My site showed up #31 for her under the term baseball directory.

So my question is, where in the heck am I ranked? This is so confusing.

Thanks,
RazSports

You are at #59 according to this ranking tool for that term without quotes. The red dot on the screen is your site. This also compares against Google and you are not in the results for that term.

With quotes your are #76 at Yahoo. Click here.

I ran the two thru Yahoo proper and they were #59 and #71 respectively. The with quotes results were different it appears.

I tried it over at yahoo-watch.org to see what they had. Those were #56 and #75 respectively.

It seems that different parts of the country reveal different result sets, or it may be something else entirely (what I do not know).

As for you being much higher when you checked the results, it may be that you have now lost position from that point in time until now. What are you showing now?

If doing a search for the whole world but using a local Yahoo search site (e.g. yahoo.co.uk) then you get different results to using yahoo.com.

Is everyone using the same site? Maybe the results are more targeted by region (I'm sure that's one of the fields when manually submitting to Yahoo).

Just my thoughts,
Alex

Default Yahoo Search-Clueless?

Hi AlexDP,

Thank you for responding. When I search yahoo, I do so by searching at yahoo.com/. I type in the keyword in their search box.

Hi ronniethedodger,

Thank you for responding.

This is very weird to figure out. Today at this hour my site is showing up #26 on yahoo under the keyword, baseball directory.

For my friend is appears as #20.

Do a search on google using the keyword phrase, baseball chatrooms links. My basketball chatroom links page shows up on page 9. LOL, my basketball page shows up under a baseball term...

Oh the love of google and yahoo.

Yahoo! recently updated, and perhaps everyone was accessing different data. I notice new rankings today, so that could explain the different results you were seeing.

I noticed that going on the last couple of days too. Especially if you are looking at your logs to see what people were searching for, and you call that screen up and your site is not there.

This happens from time to time though. Sometimes you can find it on the bottom-of-prev/top-of-next page, but it was gone entirely. Makes you wonder how in the heck they found you in the search at Yahoo....the update would explain that I guess.

Hi ronniethedodger,

Glad yo see I am not the ONLY one who shrugs, LOL.
A response from yahoo would be nice. But receiving the answer from them is like getting the answer from wall of china.

I can't stop laughing!

Last week or two I've been monitoring my site www.sochoose.com at yahoo.com (exact same SE every time) for search term "employee assistance programme".

In the mornings (UK) it appears between 127 and 129, in the afternoons between 27 and 29. I've even located the exact time 12:10 PM, that this happens.

I get virtually zero traffic from Yahoo anyway so not especially bothered at the moment, though I could imagine tearing my hair out if we ranged from, say 5-105.

The answer then is simple! Yahoo changes between AM and PM results GMT.

Correction to my last post. It's changed three times today. Reason? I think 'cause Yahoo is switching between cached versions of site. Latest cache- for higher rank is one week old (minimum), previous cache is at least eight weeks old. Have to say proof if ever I needed it that I'm improving at SEO.

This is of course a hypothesis, would be interested in others views.

Default What is going on?

I went from #11-nowhere, then up to #9 and back to nowhere again. Hopefully this doesn't stick.

Is everyone else seeing this too.
