Sounds like they need to get their dictionary up to speed then, eh? I gather though by your statement that they do pick up some spelling errors then?

What do you mean you do not use it? I would have thought in your line of work that you would. Of course, I could be wrong.
I am not in that line of work and have always cared what my results were in both Yahoo and Google. Yahoo referrals are about 35% for my total SE's. Google roughly 50% and MSN is at 15%...and yes, I use MSN also.
But no, it is not new. They have had that for as long as Google has. It was at Yahoo as soon as Google implemented it and when Yahoo was using the same results from Google.
Yahoo has implemented their own version of this however -- it is not as restrictive as Google's when it comes to the use of the possessive forms personal names or pronouns.
At Google a search for
'burts bees' will bring up the dreaded
'Did you mean burt's bees...' with the apostrophe in it. This will change the results returned very dramatically.
At Yahoo however, they do not ask you what you meant in this case...but searches for both forms will return dramatically different results.
The apostrophe does get asked for if you add another term to 'burts bees' however. If you search for 'burts bees products' it will ask 'Did you mean burt's bees products...'. Again dramatically changing the results.
Quite frankly, I like Yahoo's way of doing things. Most people will do the search without the apostrophe. This is one of the harder things to overcome when trying to rank for both using your pages, and not spam the title, anchor text, etc. to do it.
