Yahell?
Ok I figure you all are the ones to ask what to do with this domain...
I just bought www.Yahell.net Anyone that's been in the Yahoo chat rooms has heard that term...I'm wondering what kinds of ideas ya'll have for such a domain... I have an online tutorial I put together for Yahoo chat users to learn how to play music through their internal mic... Yahell hasn't propigated yet so as of now theres nothing there but I'm excited about the name as you can tell!
The tutorial that I'm planning on putting up there is now currently being hosted at www.neo-1.com It's really more for the people of NTT right now but I am intrested in what you WPW'ers think...???
Can't wait to hear...

I don't recommend that you do anything with the domain. They're very protective over their trademark, and their lawyers usually contact any and all domain names or websites that infringe upon their trademark.
I know someone who had a similar domain name, was contacted by the Yahoo! lawyers, and had to turn the domain name over to Yahoo!. So, I wouldn't really do anything with that domain name.
That's my personal recommendation.

They should buy that domain name and replace it with their current one. Coz Yahoo havent an idea about their chat rooms been flooded with spammers, viruses, bots, perverts - and their groups come to that...... I know the police are involved now in trapping perverts, but that's not enough.... I mean, most chat servers are moderated, so why can't Yahoo do it too? Or failing that, do what MSN did and turn it into a subscribers only chat server.......and remove the ability to create custom rooms.....
Yahoo wont ever listen...... As you can see, I feel strongly about this subject....
Just my 5p's worth......

Yahell is trademarked?
I'm not trying to be a wiseass...
but I love a good fight... And I know that Yahoo's attorneys could squash me or try to... :p I wasn't however aware that Yahell was trademarked? And what I was planning to do with it like I said before was put up tutorials for the yahoo users! They have to have a little sense of humor about it, it's not like I'm going to make millions off the name:)) I currently have an international trademark on one of my companies names. And in going through the whole process I did learn alot about the laws. So while I did learn alot I should probably ask my attorney to look into it for me ;)

I couldn't agree with you more... but if they moderate yahoo then there will be no where else to go for chat where you can actually practice freedom of speech. I could do without almost 50% of the lil wanna be booters/ pervs / and especially the porn bots! I have a love/hate relationship with yahoo chat... NTT or Name That Tune is where I go to hide out after a long days work... And there are some really good triva rooms as well so you have to take the good with the bad... Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever get rid of the pervs LOL get the wordtracker top three search terms and you'll know why!

Yahoo! does not have a trademark on the word yahell. However, since the name is similar Yahoo!'s lawyers may claim that you're tarnishing their image, especially since the content of your site is targeted towards their users, as well.
Good luck with the site, though, I hope you get lots of traffic.

ya hell?
Thanks for the support Bhartzer...
I do have it listed for sale on Sedo so maybe someone will buy it and take the pressure off of me... The other site www.yahell.com is just some affiliate program... I honestly don't think they will mess with me untill it starts getting some serious hits... and right now I have wayyyyy too many projects going to do much with the site... I just thought it was appropiate for this forum :D

Yahell!
Knowing Jerry Yang and Steve Filo, they would think it was funny to have a url of that name - especially if you used it for what I think you should use it for - complaining about Google, and MSN and so on and showing how much better Yahoo! is than them - because Yahoo! is great in my humble opinion - what is Yahell is trying to get the same results as you get from Yahoo! on other sites..
For example, Google GMail will have lots of annoying ads, people will have privacy concerns, their software is buggy (I have been using it for 3 days and it crashed on me twice), and its not integrated with anything like Messenger, Calendar, AddressBook, Briefcase etc. I love Yahoo! single signon and the approach that you can access Yahoo! from anywhere - PDA, cellphone, laptop, PC etc..
As for chat - the reason for the problem in that case is that Yahoo! has always tried to have a "free" model - they allow free speech on chat and in groups wherever possible, and that leads to too much speech in some cases, agreed, but I think the principles are good - does anyone have suggestions of ways they could do it differently?
Yahoo! only started offering email services that you pay for because so many users wanted the option of extra services such as full spam protection, more space etc. and it just wasnt possible to do it for so many users (Yahoo! has sooo many users!!) for free - I am sure if they could have done it all for free they would have, cos that is what Jerry Yang and Steve Filo are like!

How many of those are bots though, or dorment accounts ;).... I gather 25%, as when (well, not anymore) I go into the chat rooms, I'm IM'd straight away by 6 or so....

At last count, WebProWorld has over 45,000 registered users -- how many of those do you think actually made one post or are active?
Usually when a company touts the amount of registered users they have -- they leave out the tiny details of activity from those users. I would guess that probably only 25% as a low end are active. Probably over half are inactive or dead accounts. Yahoo does not delete accounts (not that I am aware of) if they lay dormant.

Michelle - you made a started a thread already about this. For some odd reason you have some kind of crusade against Google, which is fine, but I think you need to report things a little more fairly ... rather than espouse slanted views to support your conspiracies and anything that does not support it you conveniently leave out.
Google does not have annoying ads. They are simple text ads that more or less blend in with the rest of the page. Yahoo has Flash ads that are annoying because you cannot shut the suckers off. I remember one ad where I was trying to read the TV Listings at Yahoo, and this Apeman swings back and forth across the screen right in front of what I am reading. Then Apeman drops off of his vine and parks his butt exactly on the spot of the TV listing. What do you consider to be an annoying ad now?
As to the Privacy Issue, Yahoo Search is coming to your POP3 account now....or where you not aware of this. It is coming to you via a plugin from Plaxo for most popular Windows OS's and plugs into your mail agent (Outlook, Eudora, etc.). The plugin "reads the text" of your email and broadcasts that back to Yahoo servers for searches. But of course, this is okay with you and I guess you feel there is no Privacy concerns with that.
I am happy that you like the combined Yahoo services. More power to you, but Google's primary service is Search and being the best at it. It is not Email, although it is kind of funny to watch both Yahoo and MSN squirm a little. The kneejerk reaction that little ol' Googles Gmail service must have cost them a pretty penny when they upped all of those free services mailbox limits.

Yes. This is called Marketing. Give them a teaser for free and hope they sign on for that better Spam protection. Most of that spam btw is coming from their own Yahoo mail system. Give me a break will you. This is the same stunt they are pulling on Yahoo Search ... slow their spider down to a slow crawl and hope that the people will pay to get better service from it.
Question Michelle, do you think Gmail is a threat to Yahoo mail?

good points...
Ronnie...
I have to agree with most of what you said there.
I have not used my yahoo email account for anything
other than a spam collector...
And I did just get an email saying that MSN is bumping up to 250mb for their free email accounts!
This has to be my favorite... reason being, I have all of my work associates on MSN messenger. I get an alert the second I get an email.... a feature I know Yahoo has but I think MSN is cleaner, easier and much faster without all the flash ads that Ronnie mentioned!
If Google on the other hand makes a free chat client that is fast/easy & reliable I will definately give my gmail account some more attention... Just my thoughts on the subject;)
Cheers,
NeO~1

Yes Yahoo has that too in their Messenger. I actually have my Start Page set to My Yahoo, and that is all the alert I need! ;0)
One thing I like in particular about Gmail is the "threaded" discussions, that is a nice touch. No more quoting, it is all packaged together in one mail basically.
I wonder how long it will take before Hotmail or Yahoo implement something like this. Now that they have massive storage space, they could add that functionality in pretty easily.

grrrrrrrrrr gmail
Well I was diggin on my new gmail account....
But! I haven't been able to get into my account for the last two days! It loads and then NOTHING! I switched over the contact info for my sites (my email fowarders) to be sent there and now I'm worried that I'm missing buisness :(
Last month I started the Hotty T Shirt Contest for The CHL site Where I had women sending me pictures to my email account which I clean up/ optimize for the net then host on one of my accounts and then finally post for the contestants... Now we're in the second month and I have people asking why their pics are not up...
I can't find them....:(( Has this happened to anyone else? I'm going to contact google tech support and see what I can do to remedy this if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them...

NeO~1 I have been in and out of Gmail on a daily basis and no problems here.
The seclusion on Orcas Island and not being able to get to those new Tshirt pics must be giving you a bad case of cabin fever. I feel for you man. I suggest you hop a ferry over to Friday Harbor and have a few ales and get normalized for a few hours.

What to do with the site? You should get rid of the domain and let someone else deal with Yahoo!'s lawyers.

Awesome. Yup, I remember Steve. Jimmy Buffet (unplugged) at the Paramount Theater in Seattle was always a treat. Late seventies, Elvin Bishop at Parkers was killer. Saw Heart in Seward Park during a free concert in 75.
The whole Puget Sound area is a well kept secret I think. They have lots of these festivals all over the place.

Slurp showed a spurt of activity last week and has now been pretty much quiet. Oddly googlebot slowed to a crawl at that same time. Now it is back to normal for both.
I think Yahoo is more than probably working the kinks out of their Search, in which case, it stands to reason that they would not want too many fresh pages in there just yet. Easier to monitor the effects when they have "knowns".
They only have about 2 billion pages in the index, which means 20 million (1%) of those must be SiteMatch pages. I have not noticed the totals changing over the last couple of months that I have been watching ... it appears to be pretty much stagnet.
