Default Yahoo Directory Important for Google Ranking?

Is it important to have any entry in Yahoo's Directory in order to get a high ranking in Google?

3 of my competitors have links from Yahoo and have a high ranking in Google.

You get an inbound link but the link isn't weighted any more than any other link. So, yes the link can help you out because it is a link, but no its not going to make or break your google ranking.

Default Really?

Really?
I would have thought that having an inboun link from yahoo directory would definately have quite a bit of weight, as they are an authority site. Also, they have high page rank, and I thought page rank helped you get better positioning?

They are a very reputable site, with decent Page Rank, but most of the pages inthe yahoo directory, have hundreds of links on the so even a link from a PR 5 or 6 page with a hundred links wouldn't help very much at all.

It seemed to take forever for Yahoo to spider my site...but, when they finally did my Google ranking seemed to take notice and perk up a bit.

A Yahoo directory listing will help you neither more nor less than a link from any other page anywhere on the web with the same PR and outbound links.

It could even have adverse effects on your Yahoo rankings and traffic as yahoo may substitute the Yahoo directory title and description in their SERPs.

Default Similar situation

Something similar happened to me. Google was spidering me, just not indexing and when yahoo fully indexed me, almost by magic I was instantly updated in google and fully indexed :)

Connection?

Default some of you are confused a bit

Some of you are confusing the Yahoo directory with the yahoo search engine. Your web pages do not get "indexed" in the Yahoo directory. You submit to Yahoo and a human being reviews your site to determine whether or not to include your site in the directory (sort of like DMOZ).

The Yahoo search engine works a lot like Google. You can submit your URL, but Yahoo will index your individual web pages when its robots find them.

Mel I agree with you completely. When I was originally listed in the Yahoo directory my site was in the top five for several search words. After a week of being in the directory my site had fallen dramatically in the rankings. I believe this drop was primarily due to the fact that the title and description of my site was changed to that of which the yahoo directory uses.

I'm on a page rank 2 site in the directory which barely helps. However the directory did contribute to my initial index in google.
