Default Yahoo backlinks

One of my sites has a almost 200 backlinks (as far as I can tell).

Against my competitors, I have the most backlinks as shown by google (17 at this writing).

But here is the interesting part. I have among the fewest backlinks according to MSN or Yahoo or even alta-vista!

Why would that be, and do I care, and how do I fix that?

larryweiss,

Everyone here knows how to check backlinks in GOOGLE (several different ways), but I personally don't know the different ways to check backlinks in the other search engines you mention.

Would you be so kind as to post the different methods you use for checking backlinks in YAHOO, MSN and Alta-Vista?

Thanks,
Ken

Default Backlinks from search engines

For Yahoo:
Type into the yahoo searh box:
link:http://www.domain.com

For the rest I downloaded a freeware from axandra.com:
http://www.axandra.com/free-link-popularity-check.htm

It seems to work superbly.

try this website
http://www.widexl.com/remote/link-popularity/index.html

use two of the boxes to type in your web address
once as www.yourwebsite.com
and the other as yourwebsite.com
they will come up with different results.

You can click on the number under each search engine to display the links.

Re the question posed at the start of the thread, I am very surprised at the finding of less backlinks on Y! than on Google. The usual view is that link: on Y! will produce many more links than link: on Google.

I seem to be an extreme example of that. link: on Google has been going down for me recently for no apparent reason. Y! shows 250 times more links than the links count for Google.

I think the reason has to do with the recent increased sophistication that Google does when it comes to analyzing links - they are putting less sites into the sample to prevent analysis of what they are doing with there links analysis .... sort of a paralysis by analysis

Default Another tool

Larryweiss thanks for the tip on how to check Yahoo links. I use this site to check my links http://www.freewebsubmission.com/link-popularity.html. It's very similar to the one Mac 5 suggested.
