Search.Yahoo updating?

This is my first post so I apologise in advance for any faux pas I may commit.

Does anyone know how often the "new" Search.Yahoo is being refreshed?

While my SEO work has pushed me into the #2 position on Google for my desired keywords. All these efforts appear to be for naught as I am not even listed in Search.Yahoo for those keywords (if I search for my domain name I do find that my site is listed in Search.Yahoo).

Does Yahoo use the same types of criteria to rank sites as Google does?

Yes and no.
Yes in that all the things you need to do to optimize a site for Google, you do for Yahoo.
No in that they put different emphasis on different things that you do to optimize the site.

I have seen and used many of the techniques in these excellent forums to improve my position in Google.

Where would be a good place to go to understand the criteria Search.Yahoo rank upon?

Its not 100% clear, but I think that Yahoo puts more emphasis on keyword density than Google. Yahoo also seem to value anchor text in internal links higher than Google. Yahoo also may to give older sites a boost as well.

I agree that yahoo definately places more weight on keyword density. I think that google has a much, much, much, more complicated site ranking formula. In my experience it is much easier to get higher up in yahoo than it is in google. I have found that you can rank really well in yahoo with good anchor tect links and high keyword density. The only drawback, is it is possible to rank very well in yahoo, but the keyword density can be too high for google, and google will see it as un natural effort to gain ranking. I thin google also gives weight to older sites and gives weight to the age of an incomming link.

It's the opposite for me. Rank excellent in Yahoo....crap in Google. Go figure!

IMO Google places more emphasis on anchor text than Yahoo. Try adding some anchor text links to your pages.

I have had a ton of success with Google while Yahoo treats me like a red-headed step child...

In Google I have top results for major keywords, but I can even find my site in the Yahoo results page for any keywords...

I have actually tried playing around with all the things recommended, but I am afraid to try the keyword density. Right now, Google is king. So, I don't want to do anything to tick of their search engines...

I also have had poor sucess with yahoo. Google ranks my new site at No9, but upon a check yahoo gives me a higher page rank. On the initial spider yahoo screwed all my listings up and include a single listing for my forum. I contacted yahoo 2 months ago on their feedback link asking them to modify the listing , but it remains unchanged. Yahoo is Yapoo. Cant says as Im bothered as most people who want my site find it via google. As for the rest of the engines out there, well they also rank my site well and I get first page results, but who uses these engines. I have never had referers from DMOZ or any other engine or directory listing. Google dominates...PERIOD.

My stats say that Google gives me about 50% of my search engine traffic, with another 25% coming from Yahoo, so yahoo traffic is not something I want to ignore.

I find that pages optimized for Google tend to rank even better at Yahoo.

Im sorry, but i have to throw my lot in with the Red-headed stepchild idea. We rank in Google (not as well as i'd like), but have vanished from Yahoo altogether. Even using SEO software (ie. Webposition - yes i know, humiliations galore) suggests our site is almost perfectly optimised for Yahoo, still nothing (this is after once upon a time having results). Personally im stumped! So much for it (Yahoo) being easier...
