Default Is WebProWorld getting slow?

Hi there,
is it just me or does WebProWorld get slower and slower? The advertising is still fast, but content takes longer every day.

Someone else registering the same thing?

I guess the techies are already on to a solution. Ahh, success has it's price!

Congratulations to the team at WebProWorld for reaching this milestone! I mean it!

And thanks for making a great forum and making it interresting often of the times.

Default Uups

I didn't mean it that way.

I mean the web server is slow to serve the pages.

ah i see said the blind man.......

sometimes i just don't know whether we're in ESL mode or not..lol.....
i deal w/ a lot of foreign speaking people so i never know what
"angle" people are coming from

but now to address your qustion properly yes i think the server is slow...
sometimes it php- times itself out before it registers a submit/post

perhaps another reason why i was thinking otherwise was that someone pointed out ot me that i have a wpw-page-one post today and when i looked at it i saw that my post was like from months ago...hehe hence my "running out of copy" remark

no offense to anyone intended either 'twas just a comment on (what i thought was ) your comment

Daren,
I did take it completly as my error. By the way I am English as Second Language (hope you meant that with ESL), but glad you didn't pick up on that.

At night time it is fast(er) again.

WPW is definitely slower lately. I wonder if it has something to do with:

(1) the number of posts in the active (non-archived) database? i.e., as the database gets bigger does it take longer to pull the required posts from it?

(2) problems on/with the server which I think Brittany has alluded to?

(3) the fact that for the past day or so (when things hit an all-time SLOW), we now have ads on BOTH sides of the posts?

Shhhhhhhhh!!! Don't tell no one, but if they go to an I-frame and run the php as the I1 link they could get ads on the bottom of the page too! And, speed things up because the ads would only have to load once! But... you didn't hear that from me. Because I wouldn't suggest the use of frames!!!

it's crawling on its hands and knees now I think! :-(

I'm on a fast connection too! I can't imagine what it must be like for those visitors on dial-up!

Unlikely... Assuming it's MySQL, it has been tested to serve up millions of records

Most likely...
Can't help wondering if it's because we're running on Apache 2. It's been advised by many not to run Apache2 in a live environment.
Hasn't been tested enough IMO and not enough developers have caught up.

Hi cyanide,
I can show you plenty of tricks to get MySQL, or any other DB for that matter, to a halt ;-)
  • Insufficient buffers,
  • bad disk allocation or striping,
  • missing indexes,
  • bad table/view design
  • ...
I'd be wary of any ISP standard supplied MySQL configuration once it goes > than 10 tables and > 1000 records each. But I assume this forum is on some dedicated hosting and some tuned hardware/software.

I just wanted to see if I'm alone in feeling these slow load times and give our friendly hosts some user feedback early on.

By the way it seems to be back to old speeds today. Thanks to the tech crew!

It is definately slower. I run on DSL

But, I do not know if you noticed, we are over 75000 posts and over 37500 members. This is about the most active board I have ever been a member of. I would have expected it to slow down long before now. We have been pretty lucky. I think the crew here does a fine job keeping up with all of us.

As I said, highly unlikely its the phpbb forum

And, the largest forum using phpbb, that I know of?
Over 340 thousand members
Over 32 million posts
go-gaia.com
However, they are running some specialised hardware
and, they are also running Apache 2, so that potentially throws my theory out the window.

Interesting note:
They have a few threads with over 50,000 posts !!
That's 2/3 of WebProWorld's entire post count

Truly Astounding

Default Slow, its true - but steady!

Comparing to many other forum that of name and fame, I feel WPW is a bit slow in loading. And in membership too it is. May be too many graphics and animations causing this delay. But for the worthy discussions and postings, I feel WPW forum should get top slot for the topics and postings. I use internet cable (LAN) and the speed is 126 Kbsps. Still it takes some time to appear full page loading. Hope things improves fast and picking up with membership & Posts too!

The following is from their home page:

Server upgrades tonight
# 2003-11-29 22:43:04
Gaia reached 16.7 million posts!
# 2003-11-01 05:38:30
New server upgrades for November
# 2003-10-18 04:29:51
New server added!

Gaia-com has alredy upgraded twice and they are adding a new server soon. And their data base is...? Moreover, the topics and postings are mostly related one to time pass and entertainment in nature, thus all the kids play a while. But for WPW forum, it is a different kind, giving real advise and suggestions to internet industry and the webmasters. So, one cannot compare this forum with the childs web sites.

trsiyengar,
I wasn't making any comparisons between the two forums except for the fact that both are using phpbb.

Default Oh, about the Golden words.

mikmik's observation: (On Rocky1's posting twice)

Mike, I heard someone saying that only "Golden words are not repeated".

Perhaps, Rocky might have thought for sure that his postings are loaded within a day or two, seeing the server not severing yet. LOL):-
