Default Horizontal Scrolling

I love WebProWorld. It's so helpful and friendly.

Now, I used to be able to read topics straight off the screen and only had to scroll vertically.

Today, I have to scroll horizontally to be able to read across. This wastes time and is irritating.
Any chance of going back to the old format?
Thanks.

Keep up the good work!

Great to hear you're enjoying the forums... WPW's certainly a great place to find and share information! The horizontal scrolling you've noticed is more than likely caused by long URLs being included in members' posts. Occasionally, the trouble can be traced back to a line of non-breaking characters in a submitted code sample.

I certainly appreciate the frustration caused by unnecessary scrolling.. however as far as I'm aware there's been no major change to the format of the site's pages. If you happen to spot an instance where the page layout seems unusually wide, let the forum Moderator know.. or contact Site Admin and we'll see if we can address the problem. I hope it doesn't spoil your enjoyment of this great resource.

Look forward to seeing you around the boards,

Paul

Maybe this doesn't apply to wealth42's problem, but horizontal scrolling always occurs with 800 monitors. It's due to the forum's 3-column design which doesn't shrink to fit well enough - and if it did, the main center column would be too narrow for forum posts.

With the best will in the world, it's a bad design, because a huge number of people choose to view in 800 even though they don't need to.

The layout only changed to a 3 column design a few days ago... as yet I'm not sure whether this is a temporary layout to accommodate all the extra reporting from conferences.
Personally I think it's too cramped for the amount of information on display. You'll need to contact Brittany or Garrett for the authorative viewpoint on this though! :o)

Hi Paul,

I'm certain that the 2-column design still brings up the horizontal scrollbar in 800. I believe I saw it happening before the right column was added. If the right column gets removed later, it can be checked.

No, Paul is correct. There is certainly more side-scrolling now due to the more cramped center column. In the past, the only time this occurred was as Paul said when there was a long URL or some other large graphic or series of characters lacking punctuation or spaces.

As a moderator, I have frequently edited posts to reformat them in order to eliminate the need for side-scrolling; I am one of those who still uses 800x600 resolution so it's easy to spot for me.
