Default Have to Hit Submit 5+ X

Today when I try to post I have to hit Submit 5 or more times before my post stops showing up as a preview. Is this something wrong on my end or WPW's end?

...or about 20 when I try to post this message...

Thanks,

Rich

This is something that's been driving me crazy for a long time now.

I have yet to figure out what exactly in the code is causing the issue but I have figured out a workaround which might help until I can get it fixed. Things like this are tough to track down because it only happens 'sometimes'. It could be a session issue, cookie problem, some modification conflict (I've looked at many possibilities). Trouble is, I have never been able to isolate any action to make it happen, it's a tough cookie.

When you reply or post (particularly, it seems, if you are pasting in the box from notepad or something) you need to zap an 'enter' at the end. In other words, drop down 1 line at the end of your post. It seems to work (most of the time).

I noticed that if I just put an extra space in my post AFTER I get the preview window it works.

Positive. That will get you a message that says "you're posting too soon..." or something like that.

It's happening to me to. I was about to create a new post on this when I saw this post and thought - Ahhh, here's an answer...

My thinking was that it had to something on my browsers cache or something, but even clearing the cache didn't help...

It just keeps on posting to posting.php or posting.php?sid=

So what is the problem ?

WPW is working on a whole new version of the forums and this problem should be corrected with its release.

Rafael is finishing up some of the design details for sub pages etc and as soon as that's ready (which should be today) i will start playing with import/export of the db.

Just in the way of a heads up, there will be lots of stuff changing that may effect the way you use the forum (depending on what options/features you use regularly).

Some features that we have now are phpbb modifications and I'll be adding (most) all of them back in the days following the changeover but they will not be in there from the start. One of my primary motivations for doing this is the elimination of some of the longstanding bugs (like the preview thing) and in order to accomplish that I am going to initially launch a completely clean and stock phpbb/database.

Once it's all transferred though, I will get to the modifications as soon as possible.

UPDATE:

We have successfuly exported/imported a backup copy of the DB and Rafael is cleaning up a few oddities that were created when we went form the current (heavily modded) forum to a purely stock version.

Given that this weekend is a holiday weekend however, I am not going to push any of the changes to live until we get back in the office. We will have several folks out of town and pushing a massive change like this live right before everybody leaves is just asking for trouble.

It's pretty well ready to go now though so we should have it finalized shortly after we return next week.
