Default Contest Suggestions

As you all know, WebProWorld is always open to suggestions and comments. I have a few quick questions and any feedback would be greatly appreciated:

1. Time frame -- obviously, the normal time frame for WebProWorld contests is 2-3 weeks. Is this enough time for the majority of you, or should we consider 4-6 weeks for a web design contest?

2. Submission of entries -- again, with most contests we allow members to submit entries directly within the thread. But due to the nature of this contest and the number of off-topic comments we had, it probably would have been best to just have you all email us your entries.

In the future, we are considering have contestants email us the entries, and we will in turn post them on the web so that all members will get to see the submissions (but not necessarily vote on them). That way, the contest thread can be left open for general discussion. What do you think? Any other ideas?

3. Did you have to say that? -- Please remember to avoid taking discussions into those dark, mysterious, random off-topic areas -- that's what the Break Room is for ;)

I look forward to hearing from you -- and seeing your entries for our next contest...

Thanks again,

Brittany

1. Time frame -- 4 weeks seems to be an OK timeframe. Too long and it gets stale.

2. Submission of entries -- I think them being submitted by email will be a long task for someone. So here's a thought, the forms that Steven Glover did for the Make a Wish were a cool way to keep track of what was going on, I am wondering if he might be able to do the same kind of thing for graphic or link submissions? Therefore, you could have a link to the page in the initial description, and the rest of thread could be in discussion of it.

I believe 2-3 weeks is a fair time to make a template.

I also think that any future web sites should be in an html type format so that its easy and fair for everyone.

There are some very nice designs among the entrants and well done to all who took part

More thought must go into wether the page is to have the logo, banners etc. remain the same or changed?

Default judging time frames

Daren,

You bring up a good point. We're going to be more strict about contest deadlines in the future.

For contests judged by iEntry/WebProWorld the actual judging usually begins the day after the contest ends. Up until now, we've been less strict for contests being sponsered by WebProWorld members but from now on, we're going to expect the same from them.

The judging process can vary depending on the type of contest and the number of entries. A winner HAS been chosen for the Logo Design Contest and will be announced later today. We anticipate the winner of the "Your Choice" contest will be announced early next week.

Hope that helps,

Brittany

Default Suggestions for future Web Design Contest guidelines

I just wanted to point out that there are a number of criteria that should be considered in laying out the requirements for a future contest.

In this instance the request was just for a design template which may mean different things to different designers. In some cases this may be interpreted as just a design image and in others it may be interpreted as a design image cut up and functionally applied to a working page. This was not made clear and as a result you have a mixture of what was submitted.

I believe some line items to address in addition to deadline would be:
1. Image or functional model required

If a functional model:
2. Is the page to use straight HTML with tables for layout control or CSS
3. Is flash allowed in the design or not
4. Is the use of javascript allowed (ex. menu highlighting)
5. Is the use of other scripting methods allowed

6. Where are images in the design allowed to be drawn from (ie stock cd's, images from the customers site etc)
7. Is there a limit on the download size
8. Are you required to use the existing logo or can a new one be created?
9. What are the predominant colors to be used
10. Type/Style of site: (conservative, flashy, etc)
11. Ownership (Do all submissions become property of the contest holder or only the winning site)
12. Clear method of submission (ie. links? email? post of image?)

Note that some of these were brought up already but I was trying to put together the start of a comprehensive list.

Also a clear time for the deadline should be established, not just a date (ex 8:00pm EST 1/14/2004) This is especially important since you have an international crowd submitting and it may be
a different date for some of the entrants depending on their location in the world!

Just some thoughts for consideration ;)

Default New contest on the rise

Brittany,
Check out this post
http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic...679&highlight=

Tim is willing to offer $100 dollars to the winner of the next logo design contest for his web site. I told him to talk to you about it, so you may have already heard from him. But it sounds good to keep the contest ball rolling.

Best of luck to all.
