Default Jargon buster?

Hi,
I've just been reading the huge (massive!) disscusion debate about 'newbies' and explaining things clearly, followed by the confusion arrising from a lack of clarity, etc.,etc....
My suggestion (prompted by Greeneagle) is that you include a 'jargon buster' or glossary in the left hand navigation bar. That would be invaluable to those of us who don't know the difference between ISP (internet sevice provider) and IMO (in my opinion) or > (?)!
However, I am in favour of simply asking. The responce, as most people on this forum would agree, has consistantly been imformative, clear (as SEO can be) and non patronising. Also, if you are new, as I am, say so. If you've been in SEO (or whatever) for say 10 years, definatly say so, that's 9 years older than this forum.
I'd just like to thank everyone at WPW (and the other forums) who have helped and guided me this last month, as I came to SEO as a COMPLETE beginer, I mean, no IT skills either! My first question to a forum was, "I've just blagged a job as a search engineer, please help!" The responce to this was, as usual, full of good information and advice.
Thanks to you all. 'appy NYE!

It's allways the case isn't it.....

I think 'oh yeah, a jargon buster!' and just after i post my sugestion, I find one, right here!

So today I've learnt to "seek first, ask later"

However, it would look nice on the left hand side !

Default jargon buster

Great suggestion, Hawkwind!

For those who don't know, we currently have a Glossary of Terms and Abbreviations to help newbies out, but perhaps a link to this in one of the columns would be a better idea.

If we add another link to the left-hand column, though, would members actually notice/click it? :-\

Just a thought...

I use the links on the left side, also use the first one above, above may be better. If we had someone with all the time in the world they could make a webpage that had nothing but the jargon on it, would be a fast easy get the lingo right page.

GOT TIME!

Ya it is 4:08PM here,, Ha Ha!

Then how to deside what is the true term for IP lets say..

IP: Incident Post

Quote:
1. IP: Information Provider
2. IP: Instruction Pointer
CPU register [Intel - Hardware]
3. IP: Intellectual Property
4. IP: Intelligent Peripheral
5. IP: Internet Protocol
{/quote

Just a thought.
