The Way Things used to be in this forum
I don't know what~0 posted and I don't want to know, and seeing admin are going to read this anyway I thought I would say it here. Most of us that post in this particular forum do so because it breaks up another day of site submissions and page updates, taking phone calls, meetings etc. I have also really got into the spirit of helping others. The new posts in General Topic are NOT a break away thing, they are much the same as belong in the other forums. I look forward to around 2pm everyday when Global wakes up in Toronto and we start our thing, which I know you all enjoy because you join in. I have pm's from people who no longer post here, we want our Breakroom back. I've been offered a role within Warriors, heck, it's a fast moving forum, but it ain't WPW. I come in here to get away from the routine questions not to see them in my face. So there you have it. I love it here, and I'm staying, (unless this gets me kicked out, which I may add would be contrary to forum rules). The choice is admins.

ctabuk, you could never get kicked off WPW, you're the King of Posts (see the home page, you're number one with a crown even...).
WPW is a great place to hone your skills, lend a hand, make new friends and take a break from a busy production schedule. I've tried other webmaster forums but this is the one I keep coming back to.

Yeah, baby!
What happened to the Break Room guidelines?
A place to discuss anything not related to the web and web business?
A place to promote whacky wittiness and warped ... ah.. thingies, damn it!!!
Oblique observation!
Varying viewpoints!

None of the rules changed, just the title.
I can't say I've noticed a shift to more serious topics in here either.
0~ was mad because he was under the mistaken impression that a complaint he'd levvied concerning Mod behavior was ignored. His issue was addressed and he had been notified as such via email and PMs. Apparently he didn't check those before he decided to let me have it one more time in the breakroom.
I don't have a problem with criticism cta. Quite the contrary, I encourage you or anyone else to let me know what you're thinking in regard to the forum. The rationale for changing the Breakroom into General/Any Topic has been discussed already but the short version is that 'Breakroom' was not necessarily indicative of what this forum for 'any topic' was about. This is a forum for any topic you want to discuss --whatever you take a notion to chat about goes here.
The description:
"Here's the place to talk about anything and everything. What's discussed is up to you!"
(It's a copy/paste job from the 'breakroom' description.)
I ran a poll on this too you may recall. the vast majority of respondants didn't care what we called it as long as we kept it.
Breakroom sounds like it's a place for people on the 'inside' or on staff to go post. I wanted a more non-exclusive name that more accurately described what goes in here.

Whatever, Mike.
There was a lot more to the description than that. I specifically remember something about a place to get away from business talk.
If it is a "Rose is a Rose..." business, what is your reluctance to call it the break room?
It is boring - "General any topic"
The "Break Room" has character.
So you want to dredge up the COMPLETE description Brittany had up there before? At least be honest, and don't give me the "rose is a rose" stuff - it is you who insists on the change of name, not any of us. We said either it didn't matter, or to keep the Break Room.
You are the one who wants it to be generic.
And, Mike? The whole feel of the place has changed. I am not saying it is right or wrong, it is your forum. But don't tell us it is all the same. There is far less character than there used to be, IMO. If that gets you visitors and clicks, that is okay. It is not for anyone to tell you how to have things.
But at least be honest.

It's Getting Thorny In Here!
Just because you say it... doesn't make it so.
Personally, I don't think the name here has anything to do with the way things were or will be. Well, unless it is called... restroom!
I remember my first visit here in this paticular room. It was called the breakroom but I was lost and came here for 'work related' help. I needed direction and didn't realize the logical place to go at the time.
I noticed that most of the posting in this 'paticular' area was done by the major contibutors of the other work related threads.
As a newbie I didn't really understand that this area was 'strickly' for non related questions and you know what I did?... I asked for reviews in here. Shhh, settle down... I have learned that it was a silly thing to do and it probably made wen really mad. Now that I think of it... The Time out CORNER was probably inspired by the likes of me.
AnyWay, it could just be that posting in here has fluctuation not only in post count but content as well. Seasonal spikes, and or industry changes will dictate the posting aspects... not the name.
What I suggest, is this... if there is a post submitted which you find offensive or too stressfull, then just act as if it isn't there!
Now, I have given too many bits of my mind and so, I need to collect some back. So if you were given a piece of my mind, please give it back, unless you really need it. I'll manage, somehow... I still have what's left of Paul's sanity. It will do for now.

I really dont see why theres a fuss over the name change of a forum.
The poeple are the same and that is what makes up webproworld.
Without the people who post here this place would just be a bunch of bytes sitting on a server.
I come back here time and time again mostly as a break from the drudgery of <? ?> and I post help where I can or reply to topics that interest me.
No one forces me to come here, no one forces me to post and no one forces me to read a particular thread.
Whether the forums were numbered 1 -32 would not matter, I come here to read what the people here have to say as we all have shared interests.
Getting bent out shape over a name change or a mod moving or locking a thread is in my opinion a little childish.

Easywebdev, Greetings, your own posts here (except one) have always been in the humour variety.
Please note this thread has bought back mikmik and clicken and who knows how many more will join in during the week. Mike there was a vote, but there has been an influx of posts that should have been directed out, Paulhines did one and that is as should be. Actually Easywebdev (Try saying that while eating spagetti)is right you can choose where and what you reply to and that is as it should be too. However, I have posted 658 times but only submitted about 30 new threads and this one is simply to make one obvious point, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. I am not a King by any means - I just happen to enjoy helping others, I get a kick out of a PM that say's 'Thank You'
My offer of the week, free of charge IPB reports for anyone who wants one, see - I've just gone off topic, I guess I need a break!

I mostly agree, easywebdev.
But the point has been brought up repeatedly that things are different, and the name change is a symptom of the problem.
We all agreed to the name change, not the format change.
They asked for our feedback. I wouldn't complain, it is not my forum, and I have not but offered my opinion when asked.
It is the misleading and 'not getting the whole truth' that is childish, and it is the lack of respect for our intelligence that is insulting and why I am upset.
I also don't expect you to understand because you have not been part of it long enough to know exactly what you are talking about, so I forgive you.
This is the first forum I ever joined, and I have made some very close and important friendships here. This forum was, until recently, very important to me.
So you see, it is the changing atmosphere that many people have commented on, and the lip service I(we) have gotten in return (my opinion) that insults me.
I also note that if this sort of thing is no big deal, why did you get bothered enough to comment?
That would be childish, no?
This forum and the type of relationships we make here as a result of the people that are attracted to post is important to many of us, and part of what makes this home. If you do not understand that, easy, then that is your loss.
I feel a powerful kinship and loyalty to my friends here, ande this has been a very special place to me, and others.
I am tired of boring commonality, we are creative and intelligent people that can figure out having a section called the "Break Room" does not mean that WPW is off track, but that is the excuse we were given.
For someone, Mike, to say it is no big deal, then make a big deal out of it, is hypocrisy. It is part of the general decline in respect for the membership I perceive here, so it is also a much larger issue than the stupid name :O)))
If you want every place on the Web, every forum to be a cookie cutter Google ga-ga fetish, with only numbers of people clicking through on ads to matter, that is to bad. I will fight for uniqueness and human feeling over general ga-ga every time.
I already miss what web pro world meant to me a year ago, and it has been a while now that anyone has come in here and commented about how they get their day off to a great start with a few laughs and comraderie here in the break room. I imagine that would drive people to other areas, I don't know, but there are ads in here for them to look at too.
Still, the overwhelming point is the general feeling of being taken for granted, no matter how many times Mike says he welcomes our input, the being given more yak yak, and not being paid attention to that is wrecking the feeling around here.

I commented because I read some of the posts that led to this and the tone was "I'm lifting my marbles and not playing anymore" it seemed to me (the other posts) were petulant and childish.
I also realise that there is an undercurrent to this thread that unless you have been here (and you are right, I have not) a very long time you will not understand that it is more than just a name change. I now understand at least that much.

The cameraderie between a core of posters here is readily apparent to anyone who spends a little time reading in this particular forum and I do understand where you are coming from with that statement. But that said I still fail to see how the name change should affect that. It does not stop you all posting or replying.

Personal feelings are obviously getting involved between some people and as I do not know the history leading to it then I'll refrain from commenting any further on the matter. I think I'll stick to the web programming forum, if I ruffle any feathers in there the worst I can do is crash a server. :)

I do not like the name change (I can feel Mike rolling his eyes now) but, ..... no matter what they call it it doesn't change the people who post. If you really want to get down to it - and we tend to want to in this forum - it is the comraderie that has changed.
From time to time though, the 'breakroom' has a drop in it's humorous side. Posting more jokes usually helps in that area. You don't see a lot of the familiar faces posting, a polite pm asking how they're doing helps refresh their memories that we do care.
I don't see half the faces here that I use to. A lot of 'regulars' no longer post. Mostly because their lives have changed and they no longer have time, or in a few cases no longer want too. Those who do still post have had changes in thier lives, they've became busier, have had catastophes in their lives, the list goes on.
This will always be the breakroom to me and the familiar faces I enjoy seeing will always be friends - no matter who is running the forum, what they change catagories to, or how many disagreements I may read. I'm here to help people I do know, don't know and will hopefully know in the future.
Webproworld was the first forum I ever joined. No matter how many times I get 'upset' with the place (Mike can attest to this one) I rant, rave, and become obnoxious but, I get over it. Because I'm not here for the way the forum looks (I have complained though), or the words that are used for the catagoories or to describe them, I'm not even here for those who run the forum. I help out at this forum for those who have joined and will join. And that is all that matters to me. ;)

You guys know how to jerk those tears right out, now I need a tissue.... plplplplplpl! (sorry wen, but you turned on the water works!)
I may not know much about the technical stuff, but it seems quite obvious that time will tell the truth... mikmik, just hang on to that... "I Told You So"... Ah Ha, I would bet you'll want to use it... Perhaps when Mod's are tired of having to move post to the... 'Appropriate' place all the time.
I'm going to Break a GAT... Give Me Room!
We all realize that genaral any topic is a breakroom description, but if you want to do better in a search result,... you may want to use keywords in your title. Maybe it's just to help improve/increase membership... more posters to throw yard darts at, I Mean WITH!

Notice that, in the image above, you're the King in "Where the Wild Things Are" - not to mention you're in your PJs.
So I have to disagree with your statement because I envision your "reign" as such, and highly appropriate.

Easywebdev, I noticed that you avoided my post to you, and that you say you are not going to further participate in this thread, that is sad, not childish, simply apathetic. It was mikmik that showed me the whole purpose of being here, the minute I read his comments on 'my fridge' I saw a whole new dimension in being a WPW member. I too am proud of what we achieve, and yes we are a family.
WenWilder I have seen another side to you today and it confirms what I have always thought, you are one heck of a girl.
Marcie, you know my thoughts, and it is about time you had MVP - I trust others would agree with that?
Mikmik, one day I'm going to visit you and buy you and yours a slap up meal.

I registered the domain webproworld.com and found the software to make the forums. I haven't been and active admin maybe until last fall sometime, but I was here before there was a 'here' to be in.

I only changed the name. I didn't change the rules or direction of this forum. The only thing I edited out of the original breakroom description was the mention of the word 'breakroom'.

I'm not bothered, I'm just responding to a post about the the perception of the forum from a couple of active members. I don't consider that to be childish.

I'm fine with that. What I don't understand is why changing the name of a forum has any impact on that at all.

I never said anything was off track. That was never the reason cited for the name change. As I said in my previous response the name change was made simply to make the name of the forum more indicative of the 'anything else goes here' nature of the GAT.
The idea is for the first time visitor to know what each forum is by the title of the forum the very first time the scroll through the list. General/Any Topic accomplishes that better than Breakroom. That's the premise. There is no nefarious plot to undermine the levity of a forum, I promise.
