Default SPAM

PLEEEEEASE don't let a forum like this be destroyed by Spam. I just had a "Private Message" from some guy offering 7.6 million dollars just to establish a presence in my country. (The usual Nigerian stuff). There must be a method not to allow this.

I consider this forum as my mentor. It is the best Forum I have seen in YEARS (and I've been around). There must be a way to stop spam from ruining such a great place of ideas, comments, suggestions and so forth. Find a way!!!

I recieved the spam as well. However sometimes this sort of thing can be difficult to police. I would ignore it until someone gets a handle on it. And be exceptionally careful about calling any numbers you recieve in email. Some can have an instant effect on your phone bill. :)

Uhm, guys, unless you let me know specifically which member(s) is/are spamming the forum, we can't do anything to prevent it.

Please forward me a full copy of any and all private messages or emails, or a link to any spam posts that you find.

We consider this to be very serious, but we need YOUR help in preventing situations like this!

(Gosh, I kind of remind myself of Smokey the Bear: "Only YOU can prevent forest fires..." LOL.. But hey, it's true!)

Thanks,

Brittany

I should clarify. "By ignore it" I meant don't let the stupidity of actions that can't always be controlled by WebProWorld influence your feelings for the website.

The benefits of this forum far outweigh the negatives that are few and far between

I'm starting to feel unloved. I never get any spam relating to my membership of this forum.

I'm going to go off and have a cry now.

Default The Spamming War continues

I wrote this message to my subscribers in October About Spam.

Have fun with it.

Hey everyone!

Boy! It's been hectic these few days *AND* I've built up
such a Rant against the confusion about SPAM on the net.
(which reflects the build up of easy virus distribution).

Soon our email messages will look like this in our
mail box.

------------------------------------------------------------

H_i [firstname] (exclamation mark)

h (h is capitalized) ow are yo--u 2day(question mark)

. . . - - - . . . (you need morse code knowledge)

Re - Soldiers at the gate.

Lonnie

-------------------------------------------------------------

You see what I'm getting at here - Yissh!

The FTC and ISPs are all too deep. (duh... I dunno, but this will
stop spamming) NOT!

Have you ever gone to the door after someone or
something rang your doorbell only to find that there was no one
there?

I bet a Billion Bucks the answer is yes.

Okay, picture in your mind while sitting watching TV, the door
bell rings. You get up and oops no one there. hmmmm... you
wonder.

You head back to your soft comfy chair and the bell rings again.
You get up... Oops no one there? You put on your slippers
and chase down around the house to find not a sole. While you
scratch your head... You head back in the house.

This time you stand watch. Nothing happens. You get back to
that ever so nice cup of coffee and soothing chair.

Ding Dong! You race to the door! No one there! You're raged!

You go back in the house and pull out your kitchen chair and just
stare at the door. Ding Dong! You're flying to the door Now! But
no one... Not even a ghost.

Doesn't this just Rock your Socks?

Well this is Spam - you see when we receive an email and
respond to it and it kicks back from the ISP - Mail administrator
returned message.!!! This is the same guy that went and rang
your door bell - he wants to sell you something, but he doesn't
have the *Nerve* to talk to you face to face.

But he leaves you a piece of paper in the mailbox telling you to
go downtown and take at look at what he has to offer to sell you.

Yeah right! Just watch me you say! lol

Conclusion:

We live in a land of free enterprise - If you want to send me
something for my consideration you must be wo/man enough to
face me at the door.

Illegalize applications that submit anonymous email.Period!
ISPs can setup an email verifier gate to auotrespond back to
the source.

The messgae could read along the lines of;
Your email address is not recognized - Are you sure you want
to continue?

PLUS+

This will discourage mischief and viruses from spreading.

Busy in Canada,

A long time ago my host installed an anti spam script which added {spam?} to the start of the subject of an emails it classed as spam. I recently discovered that he changed it at some point to delete emails it classed as spam and send the sender a "unknown user" email. The problem with server side spam filters that delete the emails is that what it considers spam isn't always spam.

I am now using The Bat email client with the Bayes spam filter plugin. this way all email classed as spam get sent to trash but i can check if it truly is.
