I don't agree. What about C++, design patterns and components (that is in a sense generalized patterns)?

Design patterns and components (binary code) are becoming more and more important in web development.

The good folks over at SitePoint have lots of excellent books that can take you from the ground, up to any level of complexity you care to explore.
