We are looking to set up a website in Australia which I will be managing from the UK. And am trying do find a decent host (e.g. Linux; good customer care, good uptime, no nasty surprises! I'd prefer unmetred bandwidth although for the first couple years we won't be expecting a huge amount of traffic...)
Does anyone have any recommendations? I've found a few review sites but they all seem a little biased to me, and with so many negative comments about a number of the seemingly top web hosts I'm finding it difficult to make a choice... Many thanks in advance... |

I have a friend that uses http://jumba.com.au/ and is quite happy with them, now part of http://www.aussiehq.com.au/
I don't think I have ever seen unmetered bandwidth offered on Australian servers. Does it have to be in Australia or could you use west coast USA? |

I have been using Hosting Bay - The Cheapest Business Hosting Service in Australia for about 7 years for a number of smaller sites.
I never had any real trouble with them, I have done worse with big American hosts. They have both Australian (servers in Melbourne, I think) and US packages,, but no unlimited Australian ones. The biggest one here is probably Web Hosting from WebCentral for Small Businesses, Corporates and Enterprises but they are very expensive and might be too much focused on the very big end of town and government contracts. Cheers

Unmetered hosting doesn't really exist here in Aussie-land. The closest it comes to is Hostess - Cheap Web Hosting, Domains, eCommerce services
They are cheap, but only offer tech support via email and they run Zeus not Apache. Cheers, Niggles

Well, that is the opposite what I have done.
I found the hosts here in Australia charging a lot for less, service poor and downtimes on the high site. For that reason I am now hosted by an outfit in the UK with their servers in Dallas TX USA There is ample of speed from Australia to those servers for anyone in Austrlia who wishes to visit the site and I would argue that the speed advantage from Europe to the USA is superior than the speed from Europe to Australia, whish is at time really slow. So, for people in Australia to view your site in the USofA is not a problem. Your problem would be more expensive in Australia and maybe slower to update. I am in Australia and for my own sites that use linux (even the ones for Aussies) I host in the US because I haven't found any Australian ones that I can be happy with in terms of price or service.
