Google Reindexing on a daily basis?

As an online business development professional, I find Google's reindexing of web pages on a daily basis rather confusing. Yahoo is far easier to understand and maintain a ranking than Google.

When analysing top positioned web pages, keyword density, links etc. the results vary dramatically. Some no. 1 sites on a single word search have no text, no meta tags, low keyword density and so on.

My question is: Does PageRank matter anymore and does Google reindex on a daily basis rather than a monthly? And if so, what actually carries the greatest weight within Google's search engine algorithm?

    Does PageRank matter anymore
It never has really mattered much - it has only ever been part of the ranking formula.

and does Google reindex on a daily basis rather than a monthly?
Google has been updating on a continuious basis for the last 8-9 (?) months.

And if so, what actually carries the greatest weight within Google's search engine algorithm?
Keyword(s) in the anchor text of incoming links rules.
