Content from down site can still be consider as duplicate?

I wonder if Google will see my new site as duplicate content to old site that was already down for 3 months and the site was now out of Google index.

take a chunk of the content and wrap it in ""

also run the content through copyscape

but I would think if Google saw it once it still has that content somewhere

Hey Janna. I highly doubt there would be a problem there at all. The old site was down, the content doesn't exist and it's out of the visible Google index.

I presume you'll be adding new content to the site as well and even if that wasn't the case you'd be fine.

Remember also, there isn't a duplicate content penalty either, per say - maybe a filter which shouldn't affect you as your content isn't anywhere else (is it?).

It seems you don't have access to the previous site so as to redirect traffic and search spiders to the new from the old one?

You'll be just fine, I'll put a little money on it but do build your back links.

    Happy Easter(n)!

I did find this post here at WebProWorld regarding if Google ever forgets your content and there are some interesting comments. I'm not convinced yet that you would encounter a problem but let's wait and see what others propose because your case is interesting especially if you don't have access to the old site or if it is a completely dead domain.
