Working as a web designer my company tend to use either OScommerce or Actinic. OScommerce is great because it is highly flexible once you know how to use it and completely open source and free!

    Hi

I have used OSCommerce in the past. I like it because I can tweak the PHP code the software's written in. Zencart is very similar, but there are a lot of updates.

It really depends how involved you want to get. If you are a budding PHP developer then either of the above. If however, you want something that is user friendly and your client hasn't got to threat too much then invest in something like Actinic.

    Hope this helps.

I'm hesitant to weigh in on any one "best" cart. It depends on what kind of product you are selling, how big you are, etc. User drose weighed in right away with an extensive list of needs and wants for a shopping cart. It's important to figure out exactly what you want to do before you pick out your shopping cart. Make a list, read some reviews, give us some additional information: "Hey everyone, I'm a __________. I've been making ___________ for a few years and I'd really like to start selling them online..." That might help the community give you better feedback. Consider putting more specific information in the subject line and starting a new thread elsewhere in the forum.

Why do you think this? On this same day you posted:

And today you posted something else contradictory yet again in the same thread as one above:

So which is it exactly? Do you know anything or are you simply posting to post?

Could it be that you are actually a number of people working in some spam shop using the same account?

From what I've heard ZenCart and Avactis are both decent and flexible solutions.

Amazon must be the greatest thing ever... But really, do your research, compare apples to apples and decide upon a solution. Honestly turnkey solutions sometimes do cost more because they are a package deal where you're not negotiating pricing etc. Typically those that receive the best rates are the ones that go out and get their own shopping cart system and then negotiate merchant accounts separately - it does take a little more work but if you find a provider that can set you up with a system that is compatible with your shopping cart you do have a chance to save some money.
