Need cheap video hosting...

I'm looking to make videos and sell advertising on the site which plays them for free... the question... is this commercially viable, or will it always be the case that the ads can never make enough money to cover the cost of someone viewing it?

The plan was to use short YouTube clips to promote them, then refer them back to the site to view the full length versions...

The video's content is technical/scientific, so its very much a niche, albeit a popular one... (it refers to climate change).

Question #2: Can someone recommend a suitable host?

That is a real issue and it is a competitive business, so your videos have to stand out and be professional.

You may need a server solution from the beginning since it is easy to fill a disk with videos. Increasing price and most probably power:

The video I will film myself, I'm sure large numbers of people will want to see it.... the problem is I need to figure out how best to let make money off advertising for it. Any ideas?

This of course is what you'll need (and lots of it) to earn any revenue from advertising. But that's just a starting point. People don't always do exactly what you want them to do (buy something, click an ad, etc.) - even if you can get them to your site in large numbers.

Not necessary to make guesses about any of this, though. The Web allows you to test this stuff out - with amazing accuracy - before you spend a lot of time and money developing something that goes nowhere.

By the way, I've seen a lot of people using Amazon S3 for video hosting.

If you are working on a limited budget, I'd suggest launching and building traffic first, and if it gets too big,
move to dedicated server, (perhaps one of those offered above) and you can monetize your site at the same time, by selling advertising, once you have enough traffic.

If you are selling copies of your video, on disk say, or books or ebooks for download, that's another way
to monetize your site from the get go... don't overprice it though. Your audience will be people without deep pockets for the most part, and a lot of sales at a small price is better than one or two sales at a large price.

I can create a video, set up an autoresponder for the video, create a capture page with a sign up box to capture the prospects information. I have used their service for several months and it is very reliable.

I have some bad experiences with cheap hosting that can be expensive hosting. I have deleted two hosting companies and have a big problem with a third one. Nearly daily problems after I paid the last two year bill.

Is that supposed to be 2 links in your signature? If so, only 1 is working. The working one has a copyright of 2014??? but I didn't see any obvious reference to the video host.

You can host videos on something like Vimeo using their plus account with the option to only show the video on the website of your choice. You don't even have to show it on vimeo.com. You can control the colors and other features too.
