Process in setting up a home network

I have a broadbacn connection but I want to share the connection with my laptop with wifi and PSP. What hardware should I buy to make this possible?

A wireless router is required for communications between your cable/DLS service and remote devices.

Also, the laptop will need a wireless Network Interface Card, which very well may have been included at time of acquisition.

Your ISP should be able to tell you what characteristics are required for your particular service; and, quite likely has suitable models available for purchase from them. Armed with this information, you can then look for a compatible device elsewhere at a lower cost than that obtained from the ISP.

Cisco's Linksys routers are widely used, such that they are available from many sources at very competitive prices. For home and small business LANs, they're a reasonably good choice.

I have a wireless network between my computer and laptop. I bought a NETGEAR - Networking Solutions for Home and Business for about USD 80, put in the CD and the configuration was done by plug and play. Done in less than an hour to connect my Windows Xp computer and Vista Laptop.

With the exception of the problems with the WGR614/624/634, which resulted in a class action suit several years ago, following their being spun off from Nortel, Netgear seems to be a supplier of reliable products.

It is a good idea to maximize your broadband connection, basically they already have gave their suggestions, i just want to add that if you will be using wireless router make sure to secure your wireless network by enabling WEP, this will secure your wireless network and block those devices who are trying to connect on your network and have free broadband connection that will slow down your broadband connection.
