    Question Video embedded in flash

I have used Flash to embed a .flv video in webpage, as it has ready made video playback skins.

In terms of seo, on my web page i have a flash object, that calls the .flv video file , which I named, as per the advice here, relevantly.

I am just wondering will a search engine be able to see it is a video file...i know Google is supposed to spider flash better now, so I am wondering will it see the video file there, or is there a better way to embed a video in a webpage than a flash object...

Of course the bots are not going to read any part of the video except the file name. Yes, they can read flash but to me it's very much in early stages somewhat cause it's hit and miss at best somewhat. As for the best flash for SEO the new Flash CMS Designs are perfect for this! As you can add titles, descriptions, keywords for each and every page

The word better is subjective. I personally upload my videos to YouTube where they are automatically streamed

and use Wige's advice posted in this sub forum:

    Re: Video embedded in flash

Thanks both of you, I have done both, I have uploaded the little vid i made to youtube and also placed it inside a flash object onsite. I tried to add a transcript to the youtube vid but when i uploaded the .txt file it just kept hanging.

That is a great feature actually on youtube, new to me, that you can put this transcript and even it will turn text to speech. Captions can also be put which i had some succes with. Maybe my transcript was too long, there is not so much documentation about it how large a text file can be used etc. Has anyone succesfuly uploaded a transcript and if so how was it formatted, how long?

My onsite video hopefully it is seen as a video even though inside an swf, i just had heard so much lately about the importance of putting mixed media on web pages, so i am trying to comply and actually i am quite pleased it is a good option for users who just want to sit back and watch instead of click through stuff.

Worryingly after i uploaded my vid my site disappeared from serps but reappeared this morning, still below the ezine article i wrote on the subject, but that is always the way i always seem to end up battling my own offsite articles for position in serps...

Anyway I am going to try to get to grips with the youtube transcripts, i must been doing something wrong there.

You can use SWFObejct to embed Flash to website, which is more optimized and flexible than any other Flash embed method around.
Check playerdiy.com, which is a quick solution to add FLV to webpage and create custom FLV player for website. This is example.

The one issue that you can run into in a shared hosting environment is that if you have multiple users viewing your embedded video at the same time, since the video is being streamed by the web server, performance and playback degradations can/do occur.

You will want to monitor these kinds of issues which is much less an issue on YouTube, though in peak viewing periods, I have seen performance issues on YouTube as well, but much less so than when streaming an FLV through SWF playback over http in shared hosting env.

I have loaded a transcript on YouTube and at the time (maybe 16 months ago I think), it was done in a proprietary format that they specify. I did get it to work and this was specifically for closed captioning as I recall.
