Smile Forum submission: Its imporatance and possible hurdles

From SEO point of view forum submission is very important as it can produce really quality links. Some of the advantages of Forum Submission are

    a) Highly relevant: As usually forums are dedicated to a particular topic, its content is highly specific. For example if I am promoting a garage the car forums would be the best. When crawlers parses the forum and finds a link there it will be highly relevant.

    b) Dynamic: Forums are highly dynamic as new threads and posts keep on populating on a regular basis. So robots will index them more frequently.

    c) Anchor text: Though one my promote same anchor text again and again, however content keeps on changing adding uniqueness to the context. Uniqueness is core of all search engines when it comes to avoid any spamming practices.

Despite all above mentioned facts, to get quality links from forum is very tough. Some practical problems I found while promoting websites through forums are

    a) Most of the forums do not allow links in the posts and often user account of advertiser's are banned permanently.
    b) Some forums allow signatures to be added, however links are not allowed. Even if links are allowed most often they are made ineffective with "no follow" attribute.
    c) Signatures are generally stored at separate file and editing signature for different anchor texts changes signature at all posts. So one forum is generally good to promote only one keyword or phrase.
    d) It takes time to earn links from forum as one can't add link to each and every posts. It looks very unnatural and highly disliked by forum owners. So forum is not a good idea to earn quick links.
e)Forums are less in number as compared to directories, bookmarking, article, blogs etc sites. So advertisers are strictly sniffed out.

Looking above scenarios I would like to ask what kind of strategies you adopt while promoting websites through forum so that your user account is not banned and quality links keeps on coming. Please share your views specially forum experts are highly revered to contribute with their pioneering ideas.

    Heartily Thanks

I think you have to be interested in the topic of the forum and while taking part in some discussions you can (if it is allowed) to promote your site through links. You are absolutely right with social bookmarking. It is easier, more variety BUT forum commenting and blog commenting give your links more value from Google.

You are absolutely right sir. Forum submissions have many advantages over other traditional form of submission methods. There are easy way to earn link from it like

    a) Sending private messages to other participants with link and saving them in sent messages too.
    b) Add friends in the friend-list who would help participate in forum to promote site by including hyperlinks

As seniority increases the participant has more freedom to include links.

Thats just nonsense. They not even close to quality links - they useless links.

You are promoting nothing but spam. Please stay away from my network of forums.

I understand your feeling. However this is sreach engine optimization forum. So my concern is valid and social media of any form including forum is one of the valid means of promoting site. Yes I agree one should contribute and share some positive information alongwith including quality links. If a professional includes some valuable and quality stuff in relevant forum and topic, it would be beneficial to everyone. Links are just trade as life goes on give and take.

BUT, they are NOT quality links. They are useless links. They do NOT help SEO.

    Consider this:
    1. Almost all forum threads have a Google Page Rank of zero, so there is not going to be much PR available to pass through a signature link.
    2. Most pages on a forum have lots of internal and external links on them, so any link juice has to be shared between all those links - how many internal and external links are there on this page at WPW? (A PR of 0 divided by 100 or so links = nothing).
    3. These links are self promotional links and are easy to get. They are not the sorts of links that are editorially given, so are likely to be valued very low, if at all, by search engines anyway. If you were a search engine, how much value would you give these easily gained self-promotional links?

ie THEY USELESS LINKS. They are not what you claim as being quality links.

It is true that self promotional links are not much valued by the search engines. All the time algorithms are changing to detect promotional links and only count naturally occurring (ie third party reference) unique links. However things can be manipulated to look natural and appear that is what makes the bare bones of advertising business on which on-line marketing rests. Despite most of the forum has zero page rank it has the advantage of relevancy as discussion goes on any dedicated topic. Secondly its content is dynamic which makes crawler to parse same page again and again adding uniqueness and versatility. Naturally these links have very important role in generating traffic which is the utmost important issue for a website being promoted. Page Rank is one of the aspect of optimization, it is not the sole concern.

To know the importance and hurdles of forum submission one should actively participate in submitting valuable points on the topic. Before submitting, a forum commenter must gain the related knowledge on the topic and should be interested to post the quality content. Such quality forum posting would give the readers good opinion on the topic and thus we can get more traffic.

Re: Forum submission: Its imporatance and possible hurdles

I have found that forum links on high PR forums show up very quickly as backlinks. A forum of PR 5 or higher usually shows up with a day or two using SEO Spyglas, and on Yahoo Site Explorer with a 3 or 4 days, at least that has been my experience. I am not sure how much weight they carry in the Google algorithm, but from what I have seen they do show as backlinks and are part of the total count.
