Pay no attention to the I've-got-mine-screw-you crowd here in the US; when they lose theirs they're the ones trying to jump to the head of the line for handouts.

Note: Norwegian is my mother tongue. That sounds too American to me. Can you rewrite the statment? It is not a joke.

My own thought. Why didn't Goolge supply random censored content (is that link available in China) behind the firewall?

This is the official page of the one world and one dream Beijing 2008 Olympics that I found on Google

Business as usual. Now it is 2010.

That is why I have implemented Google safe search on this Spillportal for barn og voksne: DinSpillSide.no site. Who does that better than Google Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page for digitalstart.net ?

And it is not difficult for the Chineese or other Governments to make their own Google powered search engine that I have done here:
The Google Powered Central Bank Search Engine

Let a private Chinese company sign up for Google AdSense and make that "the official unofficial Google SE in China". Better than not being able to use the world's best native SE in my personal opinion.

It is not difficult to make a bot that collects the (site) feed for your search engine. Here http://www.wiki.com/ is a very good Google powered SE.

You will never find a society without manipulation in one way or the other in my opinion. Do you think I only watched Cnn and Norwegian Tv during the war between Georgia and Russia?

I got good correction from non Nato member Sweden's Tv stations to the biased news here and especially on Cnn.

There are always good moves to be found on any board. I find myself reluctant to comment during these opening moves, I can not tell who is positioning what pieces, and the end game structures are not on the board at this stage.

The only thing I feel sure of is that China makes its own rules to govern China. . If I do not like the rules I will stay out of the country. It is the same principle I use for sitting next to the barbecue - if the fire is to hot I move away. .

Sitting on top of the barbecue plate screaming that my ass is burning would seem to me to be a silly position to find myself in.

Maybe Google does not need to stoke the wood on the fire in order to get the hamburger. It is their game, they will play this particular gambit the way they best see it.

Those screaming the most re. the socialistic aspects of the recent health care legislation are those who feel no need for such. However, these very same people have no qualms about receiving Social Security benefits, etc.; and, when in need, are those most demanding of prompt assistance. In short, they are hypocrites.

And, such hypocrisy is not confined to this single issue. For example, over the past two decades countless wealthy residents of New York City and Upper New Jersey flocked to Eastern Pennsylvania once a high volume rail corridor was established from Trenton, NJ to NYC. In doing so, they gave to heed to the concerns of the current residences of the then pastoral areas they were invading. However, with the passage of time, and as such areas became increasing congested and much less verdant, these usurpers became the greatest advocates of restrictions on new housing construction. Hence the description "I've got mine, screw you."

Re: China: Keeping their people in; or, keeping others out?

Informative and hopefully an unbiased article.

Personally, I view this as what we would call

    1. a delicate affair.
    2. If there is a dispute over trade agreements that both countries have signed the case may be solved by GATT / WTO.
    3. If a company that has to operate in Norway did not follow Norwegian law, the company had to close its operations. That should be evident in any country whether we like the decision or not.
    4. As Google's uncensored business model is incompatible with the information model of the Chinese Governmet, I personally find Google's move very natural.
    5. Hopefully the Google Se will continue to develope to such a good Se that the Chinese government will miss it.
    6. Microsoft "confronted" with Google in China. A new dimension and another delicate (business) affair.
    7. I am glad that I live in Norway.
