    (incoming) affiliate links

I'm thinking of adding the affiliate module that my cart has in an effort to increase incoming links. The software is set up only for banner links, not text links.

My question is, based on the way the links are formed and the fact that most people would be using them as an image link, how effective will they be as incoming links? It offers them two options - a general banner or a product specific image.

Here's the way the URL would be formed:

    http://mydomain.com/store/customer/p...er=partnername

    or

    http://mydomain.com/store/customer/h...tner=partnerid

Does linking like this, as opposed to the standard http://www.mydomain.com change anything in the way an incoming link would weigh in for page rank?

No not really - indexing agents (bots) are getting more robust and quite good at parsing dynamic URLs.

However, keep URLs as short as possible, avoid using multiple params and non-alpha-numeric characters as much as possible and don't use session ids, ... and you'll be ok.

Thanks! That's good to hear. Maybe doing this will be a way to increase incoming links. Who knows, it might even bring a sale or two.

My industry is very competative but there are lots of info and how to sites out there that don't sell anything other than ad space and wow are the rates through the roof. I'm hoping I can persuade a few to place an affiliate link instead of a paid ad.
