It will have exactly the same effect on PR as any link from a page of the same PR and same number of outgoing links as a page on business.com. In other words - there is nothing extra special about a link from business.com

    Business.com - which section should i post

    cbp
Thanks for the explanation - well you a right a link is a link

anyway i have a futher enquiry

my website currently has a pagerank of 5/10

    listing in business.com
actually i am thinking more in terms of actual pagerank increase

if i am going to pay US 99.00 for a listing with the sole rationale of trying to get an increase in the pagerank
    - where should i list
    - which heading

logically i should choose the highest pagerank rather than lower pagerank categories - is it so?

    Malaysia
    http://www.business.com/search/rslt_...aysia&type=web - PageRank - 2

    Incorporation Services
    http://www.business.com/directory/la...tion_services/ - PageRank - 5

    Small Business
    http://www.business.com/directory/small_business/ - PageRank - 6

    pls advise

Personally, I would not waste my money.

All links will boost your PR - why not get links that you do not have to pay for?

PR is on a log scale - getting a 3 is easy, going from a 4 to a 5 is not that hard, but do not hold your breath waiting to go from a 5 to a 6, based on a link from business.com (I had never heard of them until you mentioned them).

Also, don't forget that PR is only one of >100 things that go into a search result ... personally I forget PR and focus on the 99 other things after I have got a few good links.

Any Other comments on listing with Business.com

Any other comments on listing with Business.com

Can anyone else please comment on the Before and After effect or rather the real effect of paying for a listing with Business.com and the link with Google PageRank.

i have already submitted to a lot of the directories
and have achieved a pagerank of 5 and thinking of of going to 6 by end of the year.

i am already No. 1 in Google for 5 of my keywords

is there any visitors referred to by Business.com?

pls help me decide whether to pay US $99.00 per year is worth it?

    Hi ReadyCompanies,
How old is your site and for which key words are you ranked number one on Google for?
    Thanks

If I were you, I would rather spend that money on Google AdWords or other PPC.

Listing in Business.com - Effect on Google PR

    thanks for your replies

i will email the keywords to you.

    softwaresubmit
"If I were you, I would rather spend that money on Google AdWords or other PPC. "
    thanks for your superb advice
But i will not go through the Adwords or the PPC methods mainly due to the fact my company services are mainly for Malaysians rather than whole
    wide world.

    Let's have someone explain PR

So many people think PR has a value in how sites show up in Google. The fact of the matter, PR has nothing to do with how sites show up in Google.

Let's take for example a site with a PR6 and a site with a PR5. If PR had anything to to with how sites showed up in the search results, don't you think that a PR6 would show up prior to a PR5?

If you think this you're incorrect.

Page Rank is determined by the number of like links coming into a site. This does not help with placement.

Link Popularity, however, does help with placement. The more links you have pointing to your site the more popular you site is considered.

It must be noted that Google has gone through their database and cleared out a large number of pages. Formerly, my corporate site had over 500 links and about 25% of them came from one site that deals with web development.

Now, my corporate site has about 124 links counted by Google and it has a PR6.

Let me note, that before the removal of many of the links into my corporate site, my PR was PR5. After the deletion my corporate site went up to PR6.

    Quote from Google http://www.google.com/technology/index.html
    PageRank Explained

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

    End Quote

If you're going to do something or say something do your homework. Don't mislead anyone simply because you think you know the answer.

Listing in Business.com - Effect on Google PR

Lee Roberts (a.k.a. The Web Doctor™)
thanks for the theory - direct from Google

what you have pointed out is very true and it really holds water
"Page Rank is determined by the number of like links coming into a site. This does not help with placement."

"Link Popularity, however, does help with placement. The more links you have pointing to your site the more popular you site is considered."

    in light of this
    can anyone pls enlighten me

whether i should go ahead with paying for a link in Business.com - specifically?

also what was the result of the Business.com listing on their own PageRank? - any increase?

    thanks
