First post here, and have to say I'm glad I've found this forum.

I've been using Market Samurai for my keyword research and use it to identrify keyword with good search volume and little competition.

Of course this is easier said than done, as judging competition effectively is more of an art than a science.

As a newbie I'm only starting to appreciate a the importance of comptition analysis, but in a nutshell I currently try to analyse the backlinks of my potential competitors and then try to evaluate if I have thje skills and resources to outrank them. If I think I can then I will go for that keyword, if I don't then I move on to the next one.

I've heard that using a smaller amount of keywords is often the way to go...can anyone confirm or deny this?

It depends on what key words, if a target is generally composed of 2 to 4 words, the long tail is generally composed of 2-3 words, it can be phrases.

Since most users are now using query strings of at least that length, long tail keywords can hardly be but 2 to 3 words.

If you have an old site Analytics to which keywords to get traffic. For most webmasters, it is easier to invest more keywords than it is to find and manage the new areas. When you start a new site, be sure to use the keyword attributes for page titles, meta descriptions and songs. It easier to place a long-tail terms shorter questions.

    Indeed.

"Long-tail terms shorter questions" and "keyword attributes for songs" are critical to gaining and maintaining the audience's attention.

    What are keyword attributes??

Do we add a special tag like the awesome <GoodKeyword="yes!"></GoodKeyword> tag around the better keywords or something?

I'm lazy and and always use lowercase, and they still seem to work awesomely, so it would appear not

Do a search for the tag next week and see if anyone starts using them

The foundation of your strategy, a priority list of keywords, arranged in themes to the needs of target markets. This will give you focus on writing web content and implementation of online marketing.
