Does Google Penalize for Duplicate Content? Nope.

As is clarified here google does NOT penalize websites for duplicate content.

I would suggest, as I have suggested before that the reason google wouldn't penalize a website for duplicate content is because maybe that duplicate content does the user/searcher good in the end. It's all about relevant results and providing the searcher with a good experience. Sometimes duplicate content isn't that horrifying.

Excellent post, morestar! Like many, I imagine, I was under the impression (mostly from discussions of the topic I've read here), that duplicate content WAS penalized.

If I interpreted Greg's presentation correctly, the ONLY penalty might be the dilution of link juice WITHIN a site, and they've given us methods to avoid that, via either a 310 or rel=canonical tag.

and THAT wouldn't be a penalization, only a dilution of link juice...

Actually the real duplicate content problem is where people copy stuff from other sites and paste them in their own sites to get benefit in terms of traffic. These people are called spammers in the video you mentioned. I think this is the real duplicate content problem and Google do penalize [reducing ranking] of those kinds of sites.

But if a site has internal duplicate content, or has some copied content on some pages where other useful info is also added and that this content for user benefits, then that is something else. Such sites do not have all content being copied.

So Google will still give penalty to a site that have all copied content: [this is what I think is mentioned in the video: Please correct me if I am wrong]

ya and a lot of posts are duplicated on other sites as well but we don't quite know how their rankings are but...
