Re: Help with Site Loading Slow

The page opens quickly with a DSL connection in northern Italy. But the HTML is incorrect (first thing to check in these cases): two </head> tags, </td> and </tr> tags missing too, besides a bagful of table cells containing nothing but spacer.gif's with different height and length values, sometimes with length and no width, or viceversa, which eats up a good deal of the poor browser's time.
But there is worse: this page seems to be made out of two different pages: there are TWO <body> tags (only one </body> though). I don't even look at the JS which seems to me plenty and not always useful and almost always in the wrong place. Goodness.
I'd call it a disaster and I wonder how come this page is still up, it's a miracle. A good cleanup is recommended.

Just did a test and found the site is loading quite fast. Around 15 secs.

Has you made some changes? Very nice layout design. Quite pleasing to the eye.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. If anything, it sounds to me I need to look more at the overall source code structure along with the graphics being optimized. The site has been a patchwork of updates over the years by the original developer as well as various webdesigners so I know it is somewhat of a mishmash. I will take all the suggestions to heart and really appreciate them. To be honest, I had not thought the loading time was a problem but the client had insisted it was loading much slower so without having guaged it previously, I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

I just talked to another wedding site which was moved at the same time and thinks his site is loading faster on the new server so perhaps the real issue is the client. I guess I will send some of the suggestions and let them know it might not have any "major" impact on loading and see what they want to do.

You´re on a 256kb connection then? 15 seconds is slow. I get the whole page here in like 4 seconds. on a 3 MB connection, but I'm sure it's not using the full bandwidth as there's about 20 people on this network.

I hadn't thought about it before but I'll bet your client had a cache built up from the old site on his computer

Hometutor raises an interesting point, but it would only explain an initial delay on a first-time load of the newly mounted site. Once cached again, the site would behave the same (or better on a new server) one might reason.

Loads fine on my little Greek island, even at 100kps, mind you I pay for a megabyte! But then again some peeps have more than a few plugs in this thread! But are the links worth it? LOL

Just for the record I feel the keywords could do with a bit of refining

I believe you've got the full bandwith for your "subjective" test. I tried to measure it:

    @theoart
So shrink your picture and flash files. And put the google-analytics code to the bottom.

In addition there's a big mistake in your code: You have two ending head-tags each followed by a starting body-tag.

Re: Help with Site Loading Slow

It loaded up in a blink for me, on cable high-speed in Oregon, USA...

Maybe your clients had the pages cached in their browser, until you started making changes, then they actually had to load the page and it seemed slow by contrast.

    Cheers
